ahahaha

LOL... I'm too old to fall for those tricks. ;)

Ranman is now wondering if the TI-83+ hardware post is a prank too -- that he fell for.

Well, but in all seriousness, what if ti-planet and omnimaga did merge?
Then we would be only 50K posts away from making it to Big Boards lists (which requires 500000 posts). We would also have a lot more features. There would be some issues, though:

-TI-Planet takes a long time to load in North America
-I'M fairly sure that Omnimaga loads very slowly in Europe
-TI-Planet shoutbox often fails to load.
-OmnomIRC and its bots are buggy in the way that the slightest EFnet/OmniNet downtime (less than a picosecond downtime) takes them down.
-TI-Planet's design is Web 2.0-heavy, so a lot of Omnimaga members would no longer be able to visit the site due to outdated computers (as guests, your settings are not saved properly, such as disabling smart navigation and switching to lite theme).
-TI-Planet is French by default. It would need to be English by default with a very large to see option to switch to French. Else a lot of users would be turned away. In fact, I think a slogan would have to be added clearing stating that this is a bilingual site.
-If the site became primarily American, all GBA, GBC, GB and NES ROMs would have to be removed to avoid legal problems that they don't get on French sites.
-If SMF was used, it would have to be modified to allow sorting topics by post date rather than IDs in order to allow a board merge.

It would definitively be feasible since both sites are affiliated and the news are somewhat tied together (even moreso now that half of TI-Planet news are now bilingual), but it would take a long while and there would be a lot of issues to be addressed in order to avoid losing any member. In the worst case scenario, you could do like Planete Casio did in 2006: Keep both front page and forums separate, but merge the archives/courses/tutorials together then convert one of the two sites so that it looks identical. Although the Planet-Casio UK experiment failed, you can still see what I mean there:

http://www.planet-casio.com/Fr/
http://www.planet-casio.com/Uk/

Anyway happy april fools day everyone! I think juju should turn this news to #995500 text now :P

It may be because my connexion is strange but here (in my house in France), Omnimaga loads very fast and TI Planet has longer loading times but is still quite fast.

But yeah, the shout box there fails to load until you click on the text box, as if you were about to write something, and only then it refreshes :P
Not really a big problem so I think they didn't bother correcting it.

Sorry if I answer with something that seems unrelated, English is not my primary language and I might not have understood well. Sorry if I make English mistakes too.

Just some answers, unrelated to the topic :
-TI-Planet takes a long time to load in North America
It depends on your FAI and suscribtions. TI-Planets pings google.com (not google.fr) at 1.2ms
BTW, have you tried https://tiplanet.org ?

-TI-Planet shoutbox often fails to load.
This is a bug in the shoutbox : when someone deletes a post, the chat remains blank until someone posts a new message.
It has recently been noticed as an understood bug, even if it's an old one...

I agree the website could be heavy for non-recent computer. I apologizes for that, but I was guided by new HTML5 features, developping on an i7 ...
On the other hand, the settings are saved properly in the cookies. If your browser cleans those cookies, then it's your problem. I never encoured any problem, even in guest mode. Also, if you're logged in, the settings are saved in your account settings (no more cookies).

This is a deep problem, since a lot of strings are hardcoded in the template / sources.
It would require a lot of work to make it properly bilingual..

Some people have issues loading Omnimaga in locations other then North America due to the fact that our server is in NA. If you ping us you'll notice that you don't have the best ping.
I myself get a ping of around 38ms, I'm assuming yours will be much higher.

Hmm what does FAI stand for? Also for the loading issues it might possibly depend of location in North America or Europe, then. I know that in Florida, IRC used to lag like crazy, and for a short while, following Hurricane Sandy, Omnimaga took a long time to load on East Coast (including Quebec), with pings averaging around 800ms. In my case, my ping to TI-Planet is
Reply from 88.190.40.207: bytes=32 time=108ms TTL=54
Reply from 88.190.40.207: bytes=32 time=107ms TTL=54

Reply from 88.190.40.207: bytes=32 time=108ms TTL=54

Cemetech averages at 11-27ms and Omnimaga 25-35ms. Ticalc.org (which is hosted in Germany) ping is identical to TI-Planet and Mic's site 135ms (it used to be 115ms back in Free.fr days).

As for the cookies issues TI-Planet is the only site I have problems with in Opera browser. It only happens in guest mode, though.

Hmm what does FAI stand for?
Fournisseur d'accès à Internet, or in English, an ISP.

I get pretty much the same ping times as DJ (because same ISP and location lol), I guess our ISP is kinda shit for exporting data to Europe.

Hmm, strange. I know that Sorunome's server has terrible connection to ours, thus omnomirc is on withg instead of his. It must depend on your ISP I guess.
