As
reported by KermMartian, faster than the speed of tical... er light
, ticalc.org has just revealed the 2013 Program of the Year winners. Since the last decade, in December, ticalc.org runs polls asking members which program for each category was their favorite, then the one with the highest amount of votes is awarded a special screenshot on its file info page.
Here is the list of the 2013 winners below:
-TI-83+/84+/SE:
Portal Prelude
, by Builderboy. This was an Axe Parser 2D clone of the popular game Portal and the 2nd Portal clone by Builderboy (his first being written in TI-BASIC).
-TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition:
Doors CSE 8
, by KermMartian. The first shell for the color 84+ model was a big hit from the start, as it can run everything except Flash APPs, in addition to enhancing TI-BASIC programming capabilities considerably.
-TI-89/92+/V200:
Desgolf
, by Ralf Willenbacher. This 68K game holds the distinction of being the only first-person shooter for non-Nspire calculators to feature variable wall height, stairs, textured floors and ceilings, still running at a very decent speed per 68K standards.
-TI-Nspire:
Minecraft 2D
, by Jens_K. Being nearly identical to the real Minecraft game with the exception that it is 2D instead of 3D, this game inevitably reached high popularity levels, thanks to its elaborate features and the very high popularity of Minecraft in the TI community.
-PC:
TokenIDE
, by Merthsoft. This is a TI-BASIC, Axe and xLIB editor with many features, including image conversion and editing (84+CSE included), which has been long-awaited since the demise of TI-Graph Link. Although there is SourceCoder nearby, TokenIDE can be used anywhere without having to connect to the Internet.
You can find more details including all participating programs in
the official 2013 POTY page
. All of them were great and outstanding, which made the competition fiercer (some entries won by just a single vote). Congrats to the winners and good job to those who were nominated!

On a side note, 4 of the choices I voted for won. DCSE, TokenIDE, Desgolf and Portal. I voted for nLaunchy but that didn't win. I was surprised since nLaunchy lets you run a CAS on a non-CAS calc, Linux and many other things that goes beyond Ndless capabilities, but we have to keep in mind that Minecraft is absolutely very popular in the world, particularly among younger people, and Jens_K did an incredible job on his 2D version. The best thing that could happen in the future is if the POTY was split in two categories when there are many features: Games and utilities.
That said, it's still a great honor to get featured on the front page, the featured list and gain more visibility, so we should be happy for everyone who won, plus in my case, if we could have voted for two programs, Minecraft would have been my runner-up.

Congratulations to all those that entered and to the winners.
I guess congratulations are in order for anyone that managed to finish and submit a project, that in itself is a great achievement
