Kerm wasn't playing along.  He kept on telling me it was fake.  I didn't listen to him. :(
I should have listened to him.

EDIT: Oh, now the text is brown. :P

Really. I had to get a new pillow out of the closet, it was so wet.

I was close to doing it, too...

I'm just glad it's fake, that means I don't have to worry about being forced to use it on the nspire. Otherwise I wouldn't care :P I'd just stick with 2.43

I wish I had been in on it, then I'd feel better about telling my friend.

Well, congratulations for the clever idea and for the execution ;)

I did not really fall for the April Fools joke, I smelled something fishy because it sounded just too stupid of a move (not least because it would generate even more motivation for not taking any gloves wrt. the release of OSLauncher on the Nspire platform, and thereby allow the CAS OS running on the non-CAS Nspire) - and besides, penguin77 (one of the notorious TI-Z80 OS modders) was involved.
And soon after, during the European morning, critor gave me some data to back that opinion. So I watched things unfold for the rest of the day... and boy, was the joke effective :)

What made it plausible, is that as DJ wrote, it feels a pretty logical continuation of TI's negative behaviour towards what made the success of their platforms in the marketplace: relative openness and hackability.
I fully support the quest to fiddle even deeper with TI's OS to fix their bugs, optimize their crappy code, and expand , for users' and programmers' benefit. I started doing this myself for the TI-68k series, with tiosmod+amspatch, and I think that the same kind of generic patcher + arbitrary patchsets could be performed for the TI-Z80 - even if it's harder on the TI-Z80 paginated addressing space + "multi-pass" Intel Hex than on the TI-68k flat addressing space + raw binary.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I think that people trying to test the OS, see what didn't work, work around the problems, and exchange information, is indicative of a good community spirit. It already happened with OS 2.53MP, besides. If TI were to make such a blunder as releasing something like this fake OS 2.71MP (without the random crashes), we'd be more prepared to fight.

When I checked Omnimaga on the morning of April 1, I immediately knew that it was an April Fools joke... But the more I started reading and thinking about it, the more convinced I became that it wasn't just April Fools - but in the end, I did know that it wasn't real. I think I would've believed it if it weren't for the frequent crashes and the fact that 2.56MP is on 3.0 :P

But not anyone can mod an OS until it does that natively ;)

And welcome to Omnimaga, Chronos.

@4th Dimension. They didn't just create a program to fake the screens.

[dramatic pause]

They patched to os to disallow nostub ASM! O.O

4th dimension welcome on the forums, but yeah the OS was actually an actual 8xu file. I still even have a copy on my computer and I think the copy ThePenguin77 gave me is still even on Google Docs. We just took down the links to avoid issues. :P

I think the key part of this OS was the removal of Asm(), AsmComp() and AsmProgram tokens.
