Oh, that might explain it. I always forget about PTT.

I wonder... if PTT is so important in schools, does this means schools might eventually ban the regular 83+ and 83+SE in tests eventually? (Since they do not have any PTT feature)
My school actually already banned EVERY graphing calc from tests. Luckily, we're still allowed to use a graphing calc in class.
My projects
 - The Lost Survivors (Unreal Engine) ACTIVE [GameCommandoSquad main project]
 - Oxo, with single-calc multiplayer and AI (axe) RELEASED (screenshot) (topic)
 - An android version of oxo (java)  ACTIVE
 - A 3D collision detection library (axe) RELEASED! (topic)(screenshot)(more recent screenshot)(screenshot of it being used in a tilemapper)
Spoiler For inactive:
- A first person shooter with a polygon-based 3d engine. (z80, will probably be recoded in axe using GLib) ON HOLD (screenshot)
 - A java MORPG. (pc) DEEP COMA(read more)(screenshot)
 - a minecraft game in axe DEAD (source code available)
 - a 3D racing game (axe) ON HOLD (outdated screenshot of asm version)

More schools should just do that, though when I was in high school for math (i know i turned 14 this year, don't ask) we just had to use a class set of calculators, which the teacher handed out at random.

I think TI cares more about PTT than schools normally would... And as you might know, TI no longer sells these calcs at all - probably because of that reason.
I've never had a teacher force RAM, Archive, or MEM Clear my calc, and I have never had one activate Press-To-Test either.  I don't know why it's such a big feature for TI.

Yeah, same here. I guess some teachers do use it, but I've never met one.

Only time I've seen PTT used by someone else was when a student (not me <_<) did it to prank a teacher of mine.

I once accidentally cleared my memory with PTT, and that is about it.  My math teacher would not care about PTT because he allows the use of calculators AND notes.

Oh, and by the way, Holy semi-necroposts batman!  :P

Oh god. You do realize that this was FAKE?

Of course it's easy to tell that it's fake now, but at the time I think I did a pretty good job. I posted the fake 2.71 to the forums, answered a few questions about it, and then dropped offline. Things escalated pretty quickly and aside from one tiny mistake I made on the OS file (some extra data at the end that TI adds for no apparent reason), the OS was completely legitimate. It installed on calculators and seemed to be exactly something TI would do.

You should have been there... ;D

Lol wow, I think we all knew this was fake since April 2nd, some on April 1st 2011 :P.

You need to check post dates before posting :P

(However, back then, it was easy to fall for, since Texas Instruments used to be almost that bad towards the TI community. In fact, OS 2.71MP almost became a reality with Boot 1.03)

By the way, what is the aim of the boot code 1.0.3 ? It blocks people to MP OSes but why ?
On Nspires the protections prevent people from using native code but on z80s, we still can use native code even on MP OSes (with some bugs) so what is the goal ?

It's TI's completely failed counter to the factoring of the OS signing keys. It shows that the current engineers in the educational department have no understanding of what happened.
"No tools will make a man a skilled workman, or master of defense, nor be of any use to him who has not learned how to handle them, and has never bestowed any attention upon them. . . . Yes, [] the tools which would teach men their own use would be beyond price."—Plato's The Republic, circa 380 BC

Well, older OSes had plenty of bugs too. If anyone remembers OS 1.13, that was even worse than 2.55MP.
