To cheer up those who are anxiously waiting for more updates from Spencer about Zelda on Revsoft, he still has 16 years left to post the next update if he doesn't want to break the record of the longest amount of time between two updates on a calculator project by the same author.

In 1992, before calc84maniac and bfr birth and before most Omnimaga active members started school, Yann Collet started working on an adventure-strategy game for the HP48SX calculator model, called Phantasie Conquest. However, he gave up after multiple bugs started appearing.

16 years later, the author interest toward calculator programming returned, and he decided to start working on it again, to eventually finish the entire game only a few months later (the latest version dating back in December 2008).

This means if a project stops being updated and there's no indication that it's dead, then even after 15 years there's still hope! Unfortunately the game is in french and there are no instructions, but if you understand french it can be downloaded on the author's website (multiple versions avaliable) here:
http://phantasie.tonempire.net/phantasie-conquest-f4/
It must be run using an HP emulator called Emu48 from http://www.hpcalc.org .

This news was grabbed from the HP Network website at http://www.hp-network.com .

That really is incredible!  (Now, for all those who make posts along the lines of "any progress?" after a few weeks or months of no updates, remember that at least you were sentient at the time of our last post :P)

The amazing thing about this is that it the game looks so good when it was made for a 1/6th-of-a-century old calculator, and that most of it was coded (I'm assuming) that long ago (look back at some old posts on UTI, which are only about 5-6 years old, and a lot of things like leaving-off parentheses and usage of boolean tests that nowadays are considered some of the most rudimentary optimizations were seen to be revolutionary)
"We've all heard that a million monkeys banging on a million typewriters will eventually reproduce the entire works of Shakespeare. Now, thanks to the Internet, we know this is not true." -- Professor Robert Silensky

* DJ Omnimaga hides

(oh well, *hopes tifreak8x doesn't read this*, I guess that gives more chances for an eventual revival of one of the two ROL4 projects or a new incarnation of Illusiat 2002)

I think I still have a copy of the second ROL4 project from 2007 somewhere, but I don't have the first one from 2004 anymore as I lost it in a windows crash

True, altough it has been 4 years since they have been saying the same thing. After 4 years we start to get worried if it's not just to keep people active. Plus Joe hasn't posted in like 2 years I think. I do hope it's still alive though. maybe someone else picked up on the project. If metroid is possible in BASIC (and here I include pure) it's sure possible in ASM too
