April fools joke(s)
« on: April 02, 2006, 01:31:00 am »
I guess some of you probably got fooled by one/some of our many pranks yesterday. Yep, the hacking attempts were fake, same goes for the Hays Games petition. For those who missed them I was nice enough to make screenshot of what happened on the boards from march 31th 9 PM GMT-5 to april 2nd 8:30 AM GMT-5 DST (yep DST I hope no one in daylight saving time zone forgot to adjust their clocks ;)wink.gif )

-Everything started when the board was taken down with a hacker signature left behind, with a "Omnimaga is a big bunch of trolls" message.
-Next morning the board was back up but all posts were deleted.
-Ranman stopped work on Ultima V, same go for Rivereye with his RPG.
-Later during evening everyone's nicknames got the suffix "_Plushie" added to them
-For a moment all new posts were translated in 1337 language automatically (there is still some of them avaliable for read in some topics). Tenniskid even edited BCTurk signature at that moment so everything went to 1337. I even got several PMs written in h4x0r like language.
-For a few minutes the forum CSS got replaced with this skin: http://s14.invisionfree.com/missiletest . Per requests it was the first thing I removed from the forums.
-Later a new member registered as C

This was hilarious...and all I can say is

user posted image

This was so much fun!!!  I can't believe people actually believed it because we were all telling slightly different stories.  BCTurk, I hope your friend didn't do anything too drastic w/ the ip address, and I'm sorry about your sig.  I didn't realize it would do that, but it was pretty funny.  The ip address we gave you was fake, cuz I was the guest that was on there.  Also, I owned the email address that was left, and hoped I would get some emails about it.  Sadly, I didn't get any  :(sad.gif

Well... After I was fooled by the Ticalc.org defacement, I was not going to be fooled again.

But, Kevin and the Admins were pretty secretive about all of this. Managers and below did not even know. Too help prove this, I moved the "April Fools Joke?" topic from the staff area to the free discussion area.

But I was able fooled them too -- maybe not Kevin. After I saw the board was "hacked" I stated I was leaving. I got a few emails from the admins hoping I would not leave. I think they thought I was serious :Dbiggrin.gif

All I could say was, "April Fools! Gotcha!" XDgni.gif

That was a lot of fun... I can't wait until next year!

actually, I didn't even know all that was going to happen, all I knew was that xlibman was going to do something and that all the posts would 'disappear'.

well I had to work yesterday, but I caught a glimpse of a bunch of the sites jokes, I can tell a lot of thought was put into this one. One of the better jokes, I like how it was a slew of jokes instead of just one big one that makes it more obvious. Cant wait until next year!
