Lol. Well... personally I don't think we should avoid getting recognition outside the community, though. We already have a few people bashing us non-stop on a certain other IRC chatroom because of our different sense of humor, stricter policies against trolls and different views (and the fact they cannot accept that other people are allowed to have different views too), so that can altready prevent us from getting as many new members as we could, if these members only take the first version they see, so we need to not prevent new signs up in the first place.
What we need to do is promote major stuff anyway, but when an hardcore game gets picked up on a gamer site, we just gotta get prepared and as soon as we notice a giant influx in troublemakers we lock the IRC channel down. Forums are not a big problem. The issue is that we were too lax on the first few that joined.
