Title: BrandonW releases Xbox 360 Controller Bridge for PC and TI-84 Plus/SE
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on November 20, 2011, 11:53:05 pm
After releasing tools to jailbreak a Playstation 3 using a TI-84 Plus (http://brandonw.net/ps3jb/) and a TI-89 Titanium (http://brandonw.net/ps3jb89/) last year, BrandonW has now released another amazing tool for console owners that involves a TI-84 Plus calculator, this time for Xbox 360 users: Salamax!

http://brandonw.net/360bridge/

Salamax is an Xbox 360 Controller Bridge for PC and TI-84 Plus/Silver Edition. As mentionned on BrandonW's software page, "the Xbox 360 employs a security mechanism that prevents people from just attaching any USB peripheral they want to it and using it. This means no aftermarket/third-party controllers, no USB keyboards/mice, and no automation of controller functions."

Basically, with this, you can bypass that protection and you can use, for example, a Wiimote with your Xbox 360. More information are found on Salamax page above.

Brandon Wilson showcased a video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0iIrdrFfx8I) of Salamax on HCWP last wednesday, but he has made an updated one yesterday:

This once again proves that calculators have more uses than maths and gaming!

Actually, the only one to be truly shut down (with no hope of revival) is the Skylanders portal -- and even though I can't release it, I accomplished everything I wanted to before they put a stop to it.

I meant, it's likely that many lawyers visit your site frequently :P on behalf of e.g. TI.

What did the Skylanders portal do?

What did the Skylanders portal do?

It was documentation and code to communicate with the Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure USB "Portal of Power" accessory, reading and writing decrypted character data to/from it as well as emulating the portal from a graphing calculator. Activision felt it necessary to hire a law firm and send somebody to my door to hand-deliver a cease-and-desist notice telling me to stop (and to not release anything else, and take down what I did release -- which was crippled documentation (lacking the encryption key)).

Can he use the calculator to control it?

Yes, but I didn't really bother to flesh that out. I think I left in some testing code that presses UP if you hold down [2nd] or something wacky like that.

I always enjoy seeing the cool things you produce. It's a shame all the companies hate people doing awesome stuff with the hardware. You should be able to attach and use whatever device you want to as a controller. Honestly...

They did? Or do you mean how he got bashed on PS3 sites rather than when he got sent a DMCA by TI for posting the keys? From what I recall most of his projects were received positively in general.

Also one day I need to move my 360 to my bedroom and try this. My computer is sadly too far away from it.
