Casio FX-9860G & FX-9860GII OS 2.01 released
« on: May 18, 2011, 07:19:39 pm »
Casio has released OS 2.01 for the FX-9860G and FX-9860GII a few days ago. It features enhancment of polynomial and discontinuous function calculation. According to cfxm, it also apparently fixes an issue that was present on OS 2.00, but not on the PRIZM. (Let's hope it doesn't introduce the Locate glitch from the PRIZM...)

Apparently it is also possible to install this OS on a Casio FX-9860G Slim too, using SimonLothar's Slim GII Mod tutorial. Normally the Slim can only run OS'es from the 1.x branch, as there are no OS 2.x available on Casio server for that model.

OS 2.01 was also released for the fx-9860GII/fx-9860G Manager emulator series.

I tried to update my 9750gii hacked into a 9860gii and it wouldn't send... :(

I'll try it the old way, creating the OS error that hacked it up originally.

EDIT: can the os be extracted from the new update, like said in the hack PDF?

Wait I thought you managed to do it with OS 2.00 a while ago? ??? Is it just with 2.01 that you got problems? Maybe once you hacked your calc, there's no way to update anymore?

The OS update is in an exe, which casio uses some method to send.  What I would need is a way to isolate the file or whatever the hack uses.

Oh ok. There might be some info about this in the Prizm section, but this might not necessarily apply to the older models.

I guess I'll just abide with 2.0 until one of the casio leets finds this thread :P

So...

It features enhancment of polynomial and discontinuous function calculation.
What exactly does this mean?  I'm not too strong with math terms :P

polynomial function is the function that has x^n terms and discontinuous function is i think that the function that doesnt connect in graph.

So DJ, does that mean that Prizm doesnt connect the discontinuous graph unlike some old TI calc?

Nice to see that Casio still updates the fx 9860g. Even better that these are real OS updates that fix bugs and aren't like what TI does with 84+ 2.53 and 2.55. Unfortunately Casio hasn't fixed any of the Prizm bugs or really done anything new at all there since January.

List of stuff I need to do before September:
1. Finish the Emulator of the Casio Prizm (in active development)
2. Finish the the SH3 asm IDE/assembler/linker program (in active development)
3. Create a partial Java virtual machine  for the Prizm (not started)
4. Create Axe for the Prizm with an Axe legacy mode (in planning phase)
5. Develop a large set of C and asm libraries for the Prizm (some progress)
6. Create an emulator of the 83+ for the Prizm (not started)
7. Create a well polished game that showcases the ability of the Casio Prizm (not started)

If I'm not mistaken, a 2.00 OS for the fx-9860G Slim had been released on Casio server and then removed...
It's on Casio-Bank:
http://casio.bank.free.fr/index.php?mod=archives&ac=voir&id=128

But it's very similar with the fx-9860G 2.00 OS.
So you won't get the GII features like that.

Can someone explain how one who turned their 9750gii into a 9860gii would be able to upgrade to 2.0.1?  I tried sending it using the application available on Casio's website and it said "model not supported."

If it works anything like chameleon, you'll need a custom OS, like you probably used in the tutorial. Are these OSes signed? That would be my first guess as to why it fails.

Oh ok. I wonder why they did remove it ???

Maybe they found out a fatal flaw in it, and decided to fix it.

BTW, did OS 3.2 nspire actually fix the boot2 problem? or is it just Lua removal?

Yeah, but OS 2.00 was out for 2 years. It means it has been gone for a loooong while.

As for OS 3.0.2, it fixed the boot2 issue, but it added an anti-TNOC downgrade breaking protection, meaning once you got OS 3.0.2 installed, you'll never be able to downgrade again, even after using TNOC. It also adds encryption so only Lua files from OS 3.0.1 can be ran on 3.0.2, not ones generated by computer tools.

Lua files from TI also work, but I think we expected that. :P
