If any CP300 has a SH3 processor and some add-ins were made without the official SDK, then those add-ins will most likely stop working on newer Classpad 3xx calcs, like what happened with some FX-9860G add-ins.

Exactly. CP300 addins do not work on the CP300+.

Yeah I mean on new Classpad monochrome that will be released in the future. Not sure if their name is gonna be the same. I didn't know on the cp330+ programs from the older models didn't run.

As was the original classpad. The main feature this has is the higher-resolution color screen.

Hey wait!  What is with the stylus I see in some pictures?  If one has to use a stylus, that will be very disappointing and I won't buy one.  Using a stylus is ancient obsolete technology and Casio has made a big mistake.  I don't understand what is with the calculator makers? They come out with new devices with obsolete technology all the time. Like the lack of a touch screen on the TI stuff.  Do they think we are stupid and won't notice?  EVEN MY MICROWAVE OVEN HAS A TRUE TOUCH SCREEN, no stylus needed.  I just don't get it.  In this day and age there is just no good reason to intro a new device that requires a stylus. Bah humbug.

Appears to be a financial decision. They also don't have a sensor that automatically switches the display to landscape mode - you have to press a button on the screen. Anyway, maybe this is the last time we see innovations in the calculator market. A few years from now, most schools will probably allow any math smartphone apps or simple calculators only. Those high-end devices like ClassPad 400 and Nspire CX may be the last of their kind. D:

And it's not necessarily a bad thing. TI, Casio, HP and the others have milked dozens of millions of customers over the years, with severely overpriced devices whose hardware and software characteristics are significantly sub-par, and whose feature gap with leading edge devices keeps widening.

If schools end up allowing smartphones and/or tablets, customers will no longer have to buy the largely redundant devices that calculators have become due to technological evolution, and due to ever dumbed down testing.

I agree Lionel but I don't understand why they are so short sighted.  By offering poor quality products the calc makers hasten the end of their product lines sales.  Like a solder shooting himself in the foot. He can't fight and he can't run.  He put himself out of business.  That is what I see the calc makers doing.  In the local high schools where I live, the schools made bulk purchases of iPads which they loan to the students for the semester and they are switching from calculators to ipad math apps but if the calc makers had a really great product people would buy them anyway.  My position is that I have the money to spend and the interest in buying a new calculator that has up to date technology but as long as the calc makers continue to produce obsolete junk, they are not going to get any of my money.

I'M pretty sure you don't have to use the stylus. The Nintendo DS comes with one and I can still play certain games without one. ;) Styluses are more for people with huge fingers or people who hate seeing their screen become dirty from their fingers over time.

Touch screen is not available on most calcs, however, because they would get banned from ACT/SAT tests or something. If most calcs got no touchscreen, blame this on American schools for being so restrictive compared to the rest of the world. As for allowing smartphones, then students would get on 3G internet and search Google for answers during math tests. :P

The best solution for calc companies in the future would be to start lowering prices of their devices without downgrading them. Most TI calcs should be at least half their current price. I bet it would convince even more people to get one.

Also an iPad is $599.99 and an iPod won't go under $200. I seriously hope that schools allowing tablets and cellphones will never force students to get the overpriced Apple stuff so they can get a cheaper alternative.

The biggest problem with using smartphones or tablets are that they support too much communication. You wouldn't let a student use google on a history test, after all.

But then, it's not difficult at all to make a tablet without wifi and 3G, or even to make a room that blocks all signals like that.

Yeah that's what I meant. They would need to make some sort of calculator that is like a tablet, but totally lacks the hardware needed to connect to the Internet (or at least to do so without computer assistance like CALCnet has to do). Granted, if people make cheating programs then that's an issue, but it's even worse if during an exam you can flat out download your answers online in the middle of the test.

As for a room blocking all signals, that might be a bit problematic in countries that has limited budget for school maintenance. Over here, almost every school are filled with asbestos, have terrible ventilation due to not being maintained for decades, roofs are leaking and there's no A/C in most of them. I'm betting that they would rather spend extra money on those much more important things than spend millions just to make a special 3G/wifi-proof classroom, but again they're the same government that just spent $15 billions on 35 army jets that might not be used for the next decade.

I do see your point, DJ. In my old high school, which recently got renovated, they have a few rooms that they've designed such that you get zero cell phone reception. Ironically enough, though, one of them has Wifi inside. :P
