Cemetech Contest #8 Announced and zContest drawing to a close
« on: November 21, 2011, 09:22:58 pm »
Cemetech is sponsoring the next contest in the calc community!
"The theme for this contest is Arcade Games. Any game that can be classified under this genre is acceptable; if you have doubts on a particular concept, feel free to post on Cemetech and ask. Entries will be judged in three categories, as listed below. We are aware that it takes widely-varying effort to implement a given game in each possible language, and will be judging within the categories accordingly.

:: TI Programs - BASIC, Hybrid/Extended BASIC (Celtic III, xLIB, BatLib, Axe), and ASM games for the TI-83+ through TI-84+SE graphing calculators. It is likely that TI-Nspire programs will not be accepted, as the judges do not have Nspires. Special accommodations may be made if pre-arranged.

:: Casio Prizm Programs - BASIC and C games for the Casio Prizm color graphing calculator.

:: Computer Programs - Games written for Linux or Windows using languages such as Python, C#, C/C++, and Java. Other languages may be considered if cleared with the judges."

Basically any Arcade games are accepted for the Computer, TI-83/84+(SE) line, or the Casio Prizm.  Prizes have not been announced yet, but are being considered.  For more information and the official rules, check out the respective topic on Cemetech. The deadline is January 22nd, 2012.

Also, zContest is drawing to a close.  Its deadline is in just 9 days.  Good luck to all the participants, and make sure to get your entries in on time.

I may enter this. I have been looking for a project, and this may be what I need. Problem is, I may not have time :P

Thanks, ztrumpet.  mrmprog, we scheduled it for winter break to maximize the number of community members who are able to enter, so I hope that you're among the contestants. :)

I'm tempted to enter the Cemetech contest with a Pure BASIC remake of The Tower of Druaga, but I don't know If I can make the time commitment to take on another project. If I do enter, I might be writing a modified version of my Uniqure Pure BASIC Scrolling Tilemapper to support more than 2 different tiles. That, or I'll figure out something else. ;)

Spoiler For Projects:

My projects haven't been worked on in a while, so they're all on hiatus for the time being. I do hope to eventually return to them in some form or another...

Spoiler For Pokemon TI:
Axe port of Pokemon Red/Blue to the 83+/84+ family. On hold.

Spoiler For Nostalgia:
My big personal project, an original RPG about dimensional travel and a few heroes tasked with saving the world.
Coding-wise, on hold, but I am re-working the story.

Spoiler For Finale's Super Insane Tunnel Pack of Doom:
I will be combining Blur and Collision Course into a single gamepack. On hold.

Spoiler For Nostalgia Origins: Sky's Story:
Prequel to Nostalgia. On hold, especially while the story is re-worked.

I was starting to wonder about the lack of a 2011 Cemetech contest x.x, I'm glad there's one at last. The categories seems nice too. Sadly, as you might expect, I don't code anymore, though, so I won't be participating :<. Also I'm in the middle of the Christmas rush at work.

Man, I love this tilemapper.  Sometime I need to either decide to do something with or just post the version of it I made, along with the accompanying version that used strings (I would have made towns with it).  It's some great, great RPG coding there, Finale.

Oh wow I remember doing my tilemaps in picture format and goddamn my games were small back in the days. They didn't get close to scroll, though (I can't imagine how slow my method would have been...)

FinaleTI, you totally should enter that! Hope you'll stop by to discuss your idea with us soon.  Thanks must also go to our dear Ryan for mentioning Cemetech Contest 8 on ticalc.org.  DJ_O, sorry to hear it.

I'll do this once I wrap up my zContest project and start it while making statues.

I'm going to go research some good arcade games

Thanks. I love it too. It's my favorite BASIC program that I've written. I actually did make a version that used 16 different tiles at the expense of half the map size, with not terribly much speed loss. Unfortunately, it's much too slow for something like Druaga, with moving enemies and such.
