Contest 2012 Community Vote (z80)
« on: July 08, 2012, 12:11:18 pm »

The contest results are determined 60% by the chosen judges and 40% by community vote. This is the place for you to vote for your favourite of the 6 z80 category entries, which are:
  • CYANOID (Stefan Bauwens)
  • Embers-Phoenix (squidgetx)
  • M.E.T.A. (yeongJIN_COOL)
  • Vortex (Builderboy)
  • ZAMPO! (cooliojazz)
  • Rock Paper Scissors (ztrumpet)

choose your two favourites from the list above, and remember, the criteria emphasised in this contest are:
  • Theme: How the quality and application of AI enhances the game
  • Graphics: Uh, graphics. Is it pretty? How do graphics enhance the game?
  • Gameplay: Overall quality, fun-level, replayability, addictiveness, etc.
  • Speed/Usability: Controls, speed, compatibility (can it run on 6mhz models?), game design/flow
  • Originality: Original game concept, application of a port, application of old code or others' help

entries are included in the attachment below

EDIT: updated the attachment with the bug-fix version of squidget's entry as well as ztrumpet's entry, which was misplaced during submission. if you previously downloaded the entries, please use the new one instead.

The projects this year are amazing and I can really see the dedication put into them - I fully think that these projects far outshine the ones from last year, in fact :O

I'm having issues with Stefan Bauwens' game, CYANOID, and I think I may not be alone in this. This happens on both my 83+BE and my 84+SE, both in wabbitemu and on real hardware. D:

This is what I see when I try to play it:

EDIT: And yes, it does also appear to corrupt RAM and crash on quit.

Oh my :O It works (relatively) fine on my 84+SE running zStart, the only bugs are the documented ones (crash on quit)

Yeah I played without zStart and it did that ^ but when using zStart it worked fine.  Which is strange o.O I don't know what functionality is being provided by zStart?

On a side note: People who do get my game working, The DEL key will go to the next "level". If you don't wanna play trough it all, you can press it a few times to play HARD A.I.
Every time you click it it won't go a difficulty up. You have to press it 6 times to do so, since it you have to play six times with the same difficulty.
There are 10 difficulty levels.(I haven't beaten them all yet)

Erm, requesting a last-minute bugfix version? admins, feel free to take this attachment down if you feel that it's against the rules but I had a really stupid move-one-line-and-it's-fixed bug that prevents the current version from processing NPCs correctly...which basically cuts out about 95% of my game. I swear this bugfix literally took 3 seconds and that I haven't changed anything else.

Edit: Approved. Anyone who noticed that you can't talk to anyone in my game, this version should fix that just fine :)

ZTrumpet forgot his attachment, then miscomprehension ensued, so we might want to add it to the vote. His entry is attached to this message, if you don't mind. He was actually the first one to send his message.

This is what I see when I try to play it:

The game doesn't clear some key memory areas. I'm not sure which ones, but basically, to run it do this:
1. Disable all features of zStart besides running programs (including Shell in program options)
2. Clear ram
3. Immediately run Cyanoid

Also, be sure to group it because it crashes (and manages to delete itself) every time you quit or die.

Edit:
The best way to quit is to remove a battery because it doesn't delete the game

Edit2:
Lol, he's using the extra ram page and he doesn't know it. When zStart runs, it swaps page $82 into the $4000 bank so that any attempt to use a mirage call instantly crashes. He's using that memory ;D
