We have restarted the pixel contests, though we have added a few new things to them. For starters, some of the contests may require you to actually program in an image, while others will be animated images.
Currently running is:
Create an animated flame of any size on the 83+, in BASIC, without the use of libs. We will be taking animated screenshots of this to allow you users to vote on your favorite, so do your best!!

This might be fun to try...
-
Not trying to be rude but I though it was pixel ART contest not BASIC programming contest??
-
Well, a pixel art contest was too easy, as you could practically copy an image, greyscale it, and say it was yours. In this manner, we have to see code, and see it in action. This eliminates cheating, and forces programmers to think. ;)

Much better than copying or anything.

Could a similar contest be held for assembly programming? I can't program basic to save my life :(
, but it would be cool to be able to be a part of a competition. Or, better yet, a combined programming competition where you must use basic AND asm to make an animation. :)
-
There will be some exclusive to asm as well. :)

But trust me, THOSE will be harder ;)
-
Sounds nice. Now I just need to figure out how to program an animation in BASIC with the correct frames, etc.
-
the contest is over, now guys, hope you remembered to turn your stuff on in.
-
nope...busy
-
Unfortuantely, we recieved a whopping ZERO entries. I thought you guys said you were interested in these??? what happened
-
Yeah, I am wondering about that? Was the challenge too hard? I mean, come on, contest should make you think about what you need to do to accomplish a task...
-
very true guys.
-
for me, it was the fact i don't know basic really
-
Many people were just probably not very interested nor motivated, and even if they were slightly interested, they might have backed down because they'd rather whip up a grayscal 96x64 image in Paint on the computer than make an animated image/program on the calculator and send it to the computer.

Jon points at ASM again, hoping his nagging will one day succeed in spurring an ASM animation competition. Maybe a TEAM competition, that way all the work isn't laid on one person.
-
How about a Mario-Level-Editing Contest??? Does anything speak against it? :P
-
If we go the way of level editing and I ever get my level editor done, we can have a 'The Game' level editing compitition :)
