DJ Omnimaga releases new music single
« on: April 02, 2014, 06:27:08 pm »
In June 2002, I started producing electronic dance music, which ranged between eurodance and happy hardcore in style. I decided to switch to another style in May 2010: Power Metal. Since 2011, I started releasing commercial albums, two being power metal and two being compilations of all my dance tracks made from 2002 to 2012 (except the covers). Unfortunately, certain versions of the songs on the 2nd metal album went unused. Today, they are now available for you on my new single along with a new song: Unfinished!

http://djomnimaga.bandcamp.com/album/unfinished-single

Track list:
1.   Unfinished  03:40
   -Brand new song!
2.   Die! Die! Die! (Unused Version)  05:14
-This is actually a modified version of the song on Ancient Kingdom of Omnimaga. The other was favored.
3.   Heading into the Final Battle (Unused Version)  04:23
-Original version, but it was excluded from AKoO due to being too similar to Influence from Beyond the Sky
4.   It's the End of Agony (Unused Version)  06:01
-Finished nearly at the same time as the other, it went unused because it sounded way too similar to the main AKoO song.
5.   Scraps Medley (bonus)  03:54
-Two alternate and unused intros for The Star Knight, one for Die! Die! Die!, a 2002 attempt at power metal, a Dragonforce-like song snippet from late 2011 and a cancelled remix of Quest for the Legendary Axe from 2012.

The main song is themed after war and battle, the title refering to an army about to be defeated, but will not surrender and instead fight until death. Like the rest of my music, the single "Unfinished" is greatly inspired from artists and bands such as Albion (another electronic power metal artist), Saitama Saisyu Heiki, Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica, Sabaton, Gamma Ray and many others. However, it is not exactly true metal, since the music was composed with old-school music softwares like Albion did (I use Music 2000, A.K.A. MTV Music Generator, while he uses MODPlug Tracker), rather than real instruments. Also there are no lyrics (although some were written for the main song), so while listening to the album, you might feel like if this music came from some random japanese game or something. Hence why my Bandcamp page refers to 32-bit music (MTVMG being a Playstation game from 1999).

Like Ancient Kingdom of Omnimaga, this single will remain a Bandcamp exclusive (no iTune release). A 2nd single will eventually come out, featuring a 3rd Knight-based song, along with Tales of the Knight of the Moon and The Star Knight, for a single that is entirely themed after space knights.

You can download it (and the bonus track) or stream it at Bandcamp!

Thanks, :D I had duplicates of multiple songs when I made AKoO, some of which were made before the official version and others afterward and I felt it would be a waste to just not release them.

Hmmm that single is pretty nice indeed. I don't listen to your music as much as of lately though because I still prefer music on actual instruments. For chiptunes, while I do like yours a lot, 8 and 16 bit are best ponies. :P
You should make an album with the GameBoy. I'd definitely love that. :D

Thanks and glad you like it.  And yeah if I had the money and time I would probably have went to guitar lessons/school. Drums would be nice too although I guess I could have used Music 2000 as drum machine like some people do. Guitar just look so awesome to play although very hard :P

As for chiptunes my issue is that I hate working with trackers. It seems to slow me down heavily when doing songs compared to Music 2000. Pro softwares aren't any better time-wise because Euro Blast from the Past, Everest (original) and S.T.H.U.M.F.S.O.B took me 20-25 hours spanning through a week each to be finished, while Theola the One took me about 15 hours (even though it's 5 times longer).

Personally I don't judge music solely based on if it uses real instruments or not but in the past I heard some power metal done with FL Studio and the guitar sounded even worse than Music 2000 or MODPlug Tracker guitars so yeah I could understand that some people prefer real instruments, not to mention even Music 2000 doesn't sound natural. It sounded like a circular saw at times and was disturbing. I actually like the sound of Albion music, though, because it sounds closer to 16 bit sega mega drive/genesis music than mine.

On a side note, there is another version of Ancient Kingdom of Omnimaga coming soon, because I finally decided to put it on iTunes/Spotify. However, because of how expensive it is to keep online I decided that this version will be combined with the Unfinished single (although it will be more expensive since iTUnes charge $9.99 for almost every album, but at least you'll be able to stream it on Spotify :D). Hence why the album artwork look different from the original AKoO cover:

It's basically both covers combined :P

The only difference is that instead of the scraps medley, the bonus track will be Merry Metal Time (which was a Bandcamp-exclusive track available on TotKotM)

Note that this is not guaranteed to be a permanent release, though. Unlike Bandcamp, which is free, putting an album on iTunes/Spotify/Zune/Pandora/etc costs money and yearly fees and the stores even take a profit share. If sales/streaming royalties from this album ends up being under $49.95 per year I might remove it from big retailers.

I'm not judging music based on the fact that it's played on real instruments. :P Just that it sounds different and I may have a little preference.
I didn't know about the tracker stuff, thanks for explaining. Also the fact that it costs so much is ridiculous. O.O

That and the fact certain advanced music softwares and VST instruments costs a lot of money too :P (you can obtain them via other ways but if I am gonna make money from them I would rather acquire those softwares in legit ways, not to mention I save myself from any virus risk by getting them legitimately :P). That said I prefer how Music 2000 work than some of those advanced softwares anyway, I just wish it had VST support. :P

Well since you do it on an emulator, there's probably a romhack around to have 8 bit sounds. :P

Also, I could probably do something for you if you don't like trackers. No promise though.

Indeed, but good luck hacking a PS1 game <_< Also there are 8 bit sounds in Music 2000 but since they are just pitched up/down in the sequencer they sound unnatural per NES standards. There is also a PC version of Music 2000 in which you can import WAV files but I hate the controls and it crashes every 30 second. Music 2002 Club Edition is nearly identical except it also crashes too.
