Doors CS update & 30K posts on Cemetech
« on: November 09, 2010, 12:08:42 am »
Doors CS7 may have finally arrived a few months ago, but it is definitively not the final version. KermMartian has just released Doors CS 7.1 Beta 1 on Cemetech here. This new version fixes newly discovered bugs (mostly minor ones) and adds CALCnet2.2 calculator networking drivers. Two demo programs comes with the shell to demonstrate CALCnet features.

This new version of Doors CS can be downloaded in Cemetech archives. If you find any additional bugs, make sure to report them in the appropriate thread on Cemetech.

In addition to that, Cemetech forums recently broke the 30000 posts in one year milestone for the first time since 2006 (as well as 20000). Since January 1st 2010, a total of 30892 posts were made there. If they get 5629 additional posts by the end of 2010, they will break their all-time activity record of 36520 posts in one year, which was set in 2006. This also means that there are now two TI forums including Omnimaga to have gotten at least 30000 posts in 2010, a first since 2006, where both forums achieved this.

Cheers DJ! I hope you guys get to give this a try, especially if you have any interest in CALCnet.  Even if you have only two calculators (or together with a friend you have two), you can test out CALCnet2.2 with a simple 2.5mm I/O cable.  I've included NetPong v1.0, a simple CALCnet2.2 pong game, and a speed benchmarking program for your enjoyment.

Also sorry for the thread title. There was a lot of Hays Games talk lately and I was kinda distracted. That happens after returning from work I guess. ;D. Changed Doorways to Doors CS :P

Do you mean about the fights that occured back in the days between communities or the activity in general? I wouldn't say that every single member like each other's sites/channel, because it's inevitable that someone will not like one and/or the other (eg: some of the banned Omni users like Nikky), but we do not get stuff like spam attacks and if something wrong happens, the person just tries to stay away from the problems for a bit.

If you mean activity, unfortunately United-TI activity doesn't seem to want to pick up again, Ticalc is a bit slower on news, MaxCoderz only has one single project going on, TICALCS.net is spambot-haven and Detacheds Solution forums are dead, but Cemetech/Omni activity are so high that it makes up for the lost community activity elsewhere. Also, Revsoft and TIBD are picking up again. I think Revsoft had like half of its entire year activity in the past 6 weeks or so.

I have no idea why we should dispute, in fact, we should'work together, since each of us have projects that interconnect (Doors, KnightOS, Axe, SourceCoder)

Yeah true. The problem is that back then, around 2006-07, all people cared about in the TI community was freedom of speech. It didn't matter what cool programs came out, all that mattered is that people wanted to be able to say everything they want and how they want, even if it offends people and cause people to leave. As a result, everytime Omnimaga banned a troublemaker, that person started inter-community wars in #TCPA IRC channel and caused Omnimaga to be seen as the black sheep of the TI community. On Cemetech, there were lots of flame wars going on in 2006-07 when JPez was still around and on UTI, they had troubles as well. On MaxCoderz... well... you should go read the old Doors CS threads there...

Also, one thing that pissed me off back then is that when someone wanted to try something new, he got told that it was impossible and he should not bother. As a result, people did not try anything new anymore because people discouraged them from doing so.

I think many people learned their lesson from the 2008 lull.

No CALCnet2.2 bug reports or reports of non-bugs (ie, proper functionality) yet? The main thing I've seen so far is an issue with certain ASM programs that call certain TI-OS input functions from inside Doors CS, specifically MV's ASM port of WFRNG.

Wha...? The best game in existence won't work well in Doors?? *Switches back to MirageOs*. J/k of course :P. I haven't noticed anything yet but I haven't gotten time to test CALCnet stuff thoroughly. Now that you mention it, though, I'll go check in a few mins.

In reference to that above post I never saw, I think there will always be individuals who don't have, shall we say, a complacent attitude towards other sites, but the sheer number of friendly, cooperative people on every side of the fence in the community means that we generally hold it together. :) DJ, thanks again for your Nspire testing of CALCnet; I look forward to picking up work on the project again when I finish my finals in three weeks.  I have a demo program called flourish underway that demonstrates some cool features of CALCnet, so I'll look forward to sharing that with you guys here at Omnimaga once I get the last few bugs ironed out of it.

Yeah I agree. I remember a few years ago it was TI-Files vs Ticalc.org and later Dimension TI/Calc.org vs Ticalc.org and with TI-Files, even an hacking attempt by a ticalc.org staff got involved.

Later it was mostly mentality clashes between communities that occured from time to time, because for example, a group of users on a site did not like our moderation policies and we did not like theirs, and there was also the Pure-BASIC vs Non-Pure BASIC/ASM  issue between MC and UTI, but I think most people including myself realized with the time that such fighting did nothing good to the community and moved on from that stuff to focus once again on calculators.

Also, I realized with the time that it is best to have different kind of communities around and different ways of thinking, to satisfy everyone who joins the calculator scene and also to bring more new ideas. I have bad memories from TIMGUL.
