Email Notifications disabled
« on: February 05, 2014, 06:15:32 pm »
Due to a large number of emails being sent by the server and causing lots of problems with our admin email account, I've disabled email notifications for everybody.
In order to get email notifications when someone replies to a topic, you will have to go in and manually change your settings.

Was this because e-mail notifications of new topic replies got enabled by default a few weeks ago? If I am not the only person to who it happened and it happened to everyone or most people, then this could maybe explain the large amount of e-mails sent lately.

Yes it was, and it happened to everybody. I still haven't tracked down where this setting is stored so I can disable that particular feature for everybody.

EDIT: Found it, they are both disabled by default now.

I guess that explains why I didn't get notifications a couple days ago... I think I fixed it though.

It would have only been for yesterday. A couple of days ago would be because our main account was temporarily suspended from sending email due to the high usage.

Ouch that happened on 1and1 for TIMGUL in Jan 2008, but the mass email spam was caused by something else. Hackers just found exploits in Invisionboard 1.3.1 then uploaded spam scripts to send junkmail from my 1and1 account, and not only did e-mail get disabled for a week, but the entire site was taken down for a day or two for TOS violations. Another reason to fight with dovecot I think. There should be no reason for disabling of this stuff when its not spam. But thats my opinion. Numbers are a lot nicer though.

Is it possible that there is still a problem?  :-\ I didn't receive a notification for those replies and I'm supposed to get notifications for this topic.

I'm recieving them. Check your settings, I disabled all email notifications by default for every user.

Question, why does most topic have yellow stars appended to them in Tapatalk since E-mail notifications were disabled for everyone?

I don't know what the yellow star means, you'll have to elaborate.

I am unsure either ???

Basically it looks like this (except with stars instead of bells and  I am on Android and use a dark skin):

Notice the yellow icons with a star in the screenshot above. Anyone know what they are and why they now appear?

They must still be carried over from before, go into your profile notification settings and remove all the topics you don't want to be notified on.

Ah I see now: "Turn notification on when you post or reply to a topic." was enabled for some reasons. I disabled it now. Not sure why it got enabled.
