I'm so sorry, DJ. I never meant for you to take that topic I made so personally, I had meant it for the whole community after I saw some retaliation going on against what others outside Omnimaga had said. I obviously do not realize how hard it is for some people to ignore a troll. I have not, do not, and will never think of you as a worthless person, I am ashamed that I made you think so. If it weren't for you, Omnimaga wouldn't be here, and the calc community would not be were it is today, which when you think about it is a huge accomplishment. Good luck in your offline life, and if you ever feel you are ready, I will welcome you back, and so will everyone else here.

Goodbye.  :'(

Hey DJ,

It would be an infinite loss for the whole community if you actually leave.
But, and i precisely know what i'm talking about, being too much there for others can have its drawback.
That's why i hope nobody will judge you for that choice, since you deserve this balance, like everybody.

I intend to shutdown myself in a few months so there's a probability i don't read you anymore.
In the case both of us don't change our minds, i just can say it was an honor to have crossed your path, even if i don't know you very well.

Take care =]

I'm sorry to see you go DJ.

I joined UTI shortly before the server change, and everyone disappeared. I came over here because I remembered that 2009 contest from the ticalc news, and I lurked for a while. Eventually, when I saw how active and friendly Omni was, I signed up. I only regret I didn't join sooner.

Personally, you've made a huge impact on me. I respect people who stand up for what they believe in, and I respect the fact that you believe everyone deserves respect. That is a huge part of why I like Omni so much. Also, your programs served as an inspiration for me to further explore TI-BASIC programming, which lead to my Axe programming and my discovery of my love of programming.

My sister is bipolar, and used to be picked on a lot, before we knew what the problem was. Now, we are better able to support her, and she seems a lot happier. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that being surrounded by people who care for you, as I'm sure everyone who's posted here does, as well as plenty of others do, can often make all the difference.

And as AoC and Qwerty and several other have said, you aren't worthless. No one is.

Spoiler For Projects:

My projects haven't been worked on in a while, so they're all on hiatus for the time being. I do hope to eventually return to them in some form or another...

Spoiler For Pokemon TI:
Axe port of Pokemon Red/Blue to the 83+/84+ family. On hold.

Spoiler For Nostalgia:
My big personal project, an original RPG about dimensional travel and a few heroes tasked with saving the world.
Coding-wise, on hold, but I am re-working the story.

Spoiler For Finale's Super Insane Tunnel Pack of Doom:
I will be combining Blur and Collision Course into a single gamepack. On hold.

Spoiler For Nostalgia Origins: Sky's Story:
Prequel to Nostalgia. On hold, especially while the story is re-worked.

While I didn't actually join UTI, I did discover it through some link from ticalc.org news. I didn't even realize there were other calc community sites until.. well, I forget what made it happen.

UTI was very empty, so I merely lurked. The biggest discussion I can ever remember reading in my lurking days were the signing keys thread- that was it. There were a few projects, but nothing really major. I came to the conclusion that the calc community was dead.

And then I discovered Omnimaga. Here was a thriving community: as Sir said, the #1 most active calculator forum! As a result, I signed up.

I haven't really contributed much to the community in the around-a-year I've been here. But the very existence of this site made me decide to get involved at least partly, and you can take credit for that. For much of this year, I've been idling (thank you school). In the occasions where I posted in some thread or another, or got involved in a discussion on IRC, you often commented that you hoped I wasn't quitting calc programming and that I would stay involved here.

That sort of thing is a great example of the positive impact you've had in building- in founding- this community, and why I'm sorry to see you go.

The userbars in my sig are links embedded links.

And in addition to calculator (and Python!) stuff, I mod Civilization 4 (frequently with Python).

DJ, you have made a countless number of truly wonderful contributions to the community and you have been a true friend to all in your decade of involvement.  I am truly sad to see you leave now. :(

DJ_O, you've been awesome. the calculator community is alive and running because of you. The calc community would have been a mere shantytown, even with the best of efforts. Now? The calc community is revived, with things that we've never dreamed of having before - modifying the boot code, a TI-Basic like language that can be truly converted to Z80 assembly, music (and now video with sound) that requires no extra RAM pages, and even some serious calc OSes! :D

Without you, this all would not exist. We would still be in the age of MirageOS (*shudders*), no Ndless 2.x, and definitely no Lua. We would still be in the age of TI-BASIC, where few decent ASMs would have existed.

Your actions - this site - changed everything.

Combined with your own programs, your impact definitely isn't a small feat.

You're not worthless. You have most of the community's respect on your side.
The only people who are worthless are blatant trolls who contribute nothing to the world, both virtually and physically. (Basement dwellers come to mind) It would be in your best interest to ignore them, just like the rest of the world does. Remember, they have absolutely no recognition or respect like you do - let them wither off to nothing.

If you were planning on leaving before this mess occurred, it's fine. People need breaks, or sometimes permanent ones if interest wanes. This is perfectly natural. However, if this was catalyzed by the trolls, you should seriously reconsider. Remember, the trolls have no say whatsoever in the community and elsewhere.

Either way, I will miss you. The community at large will too.

If you do decide to permanently leave, I wish you good luck in future life, and hope that you can visit the forums from time to time in the future.

Sincerely,
Albert

P.S. - Happy birthday from China! (祝你生日快乐!) I wrote this on my iPod, on a crappy Internet connection... :P I'll explain in 2 weeks.

ive felt this day coming for almost 2 years now almost right after i got on this forum you started talking to me. i got to know you better than my family. you almost replaced the pople i love and care for. you have raised threw the ranks of what i value and treasure you have become probably the largest single role model in my life. yet even with all of this. i will and wont even try to change your descision. it is yours to make. you have done all of us a huge favor you have taught many people the proof of what sympathy and compassion can do for someone. but with being that kind of person, mental issues or not, one is subject to torture and torment as you try to help other people unconditionally more so than you trying to help your self.

leave, come back , stay away, return when life settles more. its your descision im not going to make it for you just know that im always here if you need to talk. even if its 1 2 10 even 20 years down the road remember im here for you. your have become that important to me. there is not a day that goes by that i do not think or care about you.

live your life to the fullest kevin. live it the best you can in the best way you think you can. no one else can know what is truely right for you except your self. make your decisions, change them and make new ones all we can do is watch and pray for you.

best of luck in life to you mate keep on living life even if it has to be one day at a time

While certainly saddening, I wish you luck in whatever you decide to do, whether it be leaving, or staying. But whatever it is, you really are a great person. You have held up an entire community, and kept it safe for all people, whether they be skilled or unskilled, timely or horrible at following through, calc programmers, or computer programmers, and everything in between. While I have been here, I have started, and not finished, a number of projects, (though I am reviving The Silencer). Each and every time, you encouraged me to try, and applauded me when I reached a goal. And each time, when I announced that the project had died, you expressed sadness, but neither you, nor anybody else ever said anything disparaging or discouraging. You have made a truly wonderful and unique forum here, and I salute you. You are not, and I do not believe you will ever be a danger to the TI community, or to any other community.

Thank you for making a place where everybody can be free to do what they want to, without criticism. You have really made the world a better place.

We'll miss you DJ_O. :'(

DJ_O it is your choice, but I think it would actually be better for the calc community if you took a break but did not leave forever I will forever be waiting for you to come back. You and a few other people in this wonderful community we call omnimaga are the reasons I still program. I was close to giving it up, but you guys showed me that it could be useful and good. I and I'm sure everyone except the most horrible trolls will miss you terribly. I hope you come back soon

I really hate to see you go. Omnimaga is the most active calc programming community, and almost all of the good programs for TI calculators are made by omnimaga users. Withouth you, the calc comunity would be dead for a looooooong time.

Could you please try to still check the site once in a while? And maybe coming back after letting it rest for some time.

We all will miss you DJ_O

Hi to the forums users I did not have the chance to talk to in a while and thanks for the support.

Unfortunately due to life circumstances regarding my uncertain mental state, leaving on July 8th was pretty much necessary. In fact, two days after my departure I had one of those usual blow-ups most of you saw before and emotional breakdown, but the problem is that it occured even though absolutely nothing much wrong happened to me the two days after I left. I know some family members have issues, and that incident after I left made me fear even more that I was developing those extra mental issues. As a result, I decided to wait for a few weeks to see how I'll feel, to see if this would happen again. Finally this happened only once more, but less bad.

I will not go into details here about those mental issues from my family, but I think the reason why I had those extra periods of insanity and loss of mind were because of the loss of a great friend that occured a few weeks prior my departure, because it no longer seem to happen at that level. Also if I had what I thought I got, I would be several times worse. That said, maybe I DO have those issues, but to a much lower level than that family member.

Basically this means I cannot promise I won't blow up again in the future, and I still gotta remove myself from places at risk. However I might be able to eventually return to my former forum activity level, at the possible cost of my IRC activity. Also regardless of my activity level, I do not want to be in charge of the website anymore, so I would prefer to remain a regular member for now. I could possibly help a bit on some things like news/articles posting/editing in the future, although I do not know at which rate. As of now my work vacations are ending soon and I'll be busy next week, so there are chances that my next few posts will still only be music upload notifications.

Also it might take a while before my activity returns to its full level, if it ever does. However it could have been much worse: Had I really gotten extra mental issues adding up on my already existing ones, I would have never been able to return on the site again and I think I might have even been forced to stop working forever eventually. Now I hope I am really safe in long-terms, so I can still contribute here for a long while.

Remember that despite not having developed extra issues, I still have the ones I already had, though. We have to face the reality. I try to do my best to control my emotions but I cannot promise things like all-caps spam won't ever happen again, and I am sorry if it does.

EDIT (Wow did I really make 3 new songs since I left? I was on a roll it seems, like in 2007 or 2008)

I am very happy that you will be returning to the forum. I was very sad when you left. We all know that you are an amazing person who has achieved many great things. It s very good to have you back. Btw, I have been listening to more of your music, and it is fantastic! I didn't know that I enjoyed your style of music until I heard it on the omni radio.
