Final Fantasy Tactics clone for the TI-86
« on: January 22, 2011, 02:56:10 pm »
Chidi O. has recently released a Final Fantasy Tactics clone for the TI-86 calculator. At 90 KB, it is most likely one of (if not the) most complete TI-BASIC RPG ever released for that calculator model. Although the game is not complete, takes a while to load the first time it is launched (due to the TI-86 tokenizing process) and occasionally runs a bit slow, a lot of work has been put into this program, which turned out to be quite impressive.

You can download the game in ticalc.org archives here.

Lol, yeah, there are not that many TI-BASIC RPGs for the 86. Some are in the downloads section here but they're not as good as FFT. I hope the author finish this one, though.

As for 86 to 83+ you need to incorporate XCOPY or another program to launch archived programs since the 83+ has 24 KB of RAM, then deal with screen sizes issues. This game on the 83+ would be possible, though, and run 1.5 times faster.

I saw an 83+ to 86 converter for PC on ticalc.org a while ago (before I joined, when I actually had an 86)

On this note, now I wish even more for an 86 emu for nspire (with 4x overclock support, since many games actually used this)

really? I should really check it out. Maybe that could make porting some of my old games to the 86 easier.

EDIT: I found it I think: http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/211/21100.html

I wonder if it runs on 7...

Personally I think it is the best basic game ever created, but who knows I might have some competition out there.

Actually the TI-86 is a z80, not a 68K calc.
