A major update to Metroid II: Evolution, which was released one year ago, is currently in the works! Here is some of the major updates that have been/are being/will be done in this enhanced version of the xLIB Metroid game that made front page news on ticalc.org back then.
-First, there is an improvement made in the game engine. Pressing ALPHA now make Samus switch direction instead of having to walk one step back to do so, thus, you no longer have to jump or end up accidentally falling when you want to shoot something while standing on a one block wide platform.
-Second improvement is graphical: The HUD (showing energy, energy tanks and items found) no longer dissapears when you enter through an hatch, it now stay on the screen, like the original Metroid games.
-So that's all? Nothing else new that justify a version 2.00 number that will be given to the game when updated? Well, the most major improvement in the game is all the new secret maps. However, all rooms will be secret, meaning you will either have to search for secret passages, or open path with bombs and shoot at walls to reach them. In those will lie a big secret, making Metroid II: Evolution be one of the first Metroid game to ever have a side quest (in most previous games released on calc or consoles you could find secret items like missiles and bombs, but no special quests like what's awaiting you in the secret rooms added in Metroid II: Evolution. Finding them will be hard, you'll have to search hard, but here is a screenshot (TI-83+ Silver Edition speed) that may give you a clue of their location if you alerady played through the currently avaliable version of the game or saw the entire world map screenshot exclusively on #omnimaga over the past week, as well as another clue shown when you finish the entire game.
(Notice how the HUD no longer dissapears when entering hatches. The screenshot also show the new direction changing feature in action.)
-A 4th new feature that can be noticed in the screenshot is the dark rooms, where you see nothing but hatches and enemies, making it hard to see traps and reach items
-Finally, 4 new energy tanks have been added as well as a secret item.
Stay tuned for more updates

I feel like few did, if there are ppl who did it's probably anonymous people who downloaded it here or ticalc.org. IIRC halifax did but I'm not sure, it may have been Delnar or someone else. Those who didn't beaten it are missing out a lot though but I can understand if they found the game too slow for their need or too big, it all depends of preferences.
I aim my games toward people who are in need of large amount of features, long gameplay and (in most of my new games) asm like graphics, but the trade-off is the speed, amount of files and total file size. Harrierfalcon aim his games toward people who like small fast paced games, but the trade-off is the much shorter game lenght, slight decrease in graphic quality and decrease in amount of features. That said, seeing how fast Metroid Pi run on graph screen, I am wondering how fast Metroid Pi would run with normal home screen graphics! O_O
Regardless: if you are currently playing Metroid II and plan to update the save file will not work properly. I dont think it will crash or cause an error, because the game automatically dims it to 22 elements but if you get the long beam in the first version and load your saved game in the new version of the game you'll get the 11th energy tank by default and lose the long beam, so you will have to go search for it again and this would sucks because the 11th energy tank is the hardest one to get in the game so you won't get all challenge

No I haven't beat Metroid II
I wish I had. I have tried many times, but it is a hard game to beat, that is for sure.
Wow that new screenshot looks really fast! I like it! Keep up the great work DJ_Omnimaga.

HARD???
u n00b!!!
j/k
IF you got stuck somewhere i can always help you on IRC though. There has been a Walkthrough section planned for Omnimaga forums at some point as well, which will only be avaliable for registered members with a certain amount of posts (6 for most but some walkthroughs will require more, like 50 or 100, depending of the game)
EDIT: Also there is a possible chance that a difficulty mode system will be added too. Probably easy, normal. Beating the game in normal mode will unlock the hard mode (which will pretty much require that u get the secret item to be done, else you won't get far)

Great way to spoil stuff, bfr! X(
j/k, that only revealed that there was a final boss, which almost all games have.
Maybe I should try that game. . . Never played it before

Looks pretty sweet! Unfortunately I don't have an 83+SE to play it on.
Screenies are very nice though.
