Title: Kinda back but...
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on November 11, 2006, 08:24:00 am
As you know i was gone from Omnimaga community until some people convinced me to come back and apologised for the beginning of the month event. Now that I am back I would like to point out again an article I've published a bit over one year ago, entitled http://omnimaga.org/index.php?showtopic=69.

As some of you know every year from the middle of May to october the TI community activity keep decreasing, and every forums are hit.

However this year, while lot of the members are very active on the forums, you may have noticed the unexplicable amount of people announcing their retirement and I am wondering if it's just Omnimaga or the community as a whole? I am getting pretty worried atm with all the staff leaving. With Alex retirement today, this makes the 5th staff to retire by himself from Omnimaga this fall, without counting the non staff members who seems to have dissapeared. While the members and staff that are still active still posts often, I have never seen such thing happen before, at least not in such small amount of time. As Cemetech, HRP and TI-Freakware doesn't seems much active anymore and having people who left as well I am worried that if no one else take over the community and start coding when the past generation of coders will all leave who will remain? This is why I am worried atm. As UTI still seems to be very active atm, noticing the amount of "today active topics", I am even more worried, because i am afraid omnimaga is falling apart and that people aren't willing to help anymore. The fact 3 people retired the same day worry me even more, I fear the people may have got together to plan  a mass leaving and I fear it may be because of things I did. THis may be 5 staff only out of maybe 2-25, or 2 members out of 50, but this is also great members and staff who left, people who contributed a lot to the community. Plus, if there is always people leaving like this, at one point there will be no one remaining, or the few remaining people will slowly give up because nobody post in their topics anymore, and they will leave too. There is also the fact we may never see those people again in the future, which is hard when you started caring about them.

Anyway I just hope there is no other staff plannign to leave, and that the inactive ones will stick here when they are less busy and hopefully become slighyl more active again sometimes.

I didn't 'leave' because of anything you said, it's because of my own reasons really. And I'll still release my games by the date announced, it's just that I'm working on non-calc projects at the moment, and I hate splitting my focus between different platforms and different communities. I'll be back, when I'll be ready :)smile.gif

I will not leave. Also, if you need someone to continue, or another admin, or anything, I am here.

I don't think I will ever leave the TI community. It is very hard cause I tried one time because I felt like my programming was going nowhere but I could'nt bring myself to do it because there would be a void in my life. That is how much the TI means to me.

I am going to be here at least until I finish several games and make sure that I have left a lasting mark on the community (i.e. my masterpiece).

God I don't want omnimaga to be the next dead site on ticalc's homepage. But at least we had a nice long life if that does happen.

i think its to be released in 2007, but apparently it has no BASIC draw functions so Idk if i would buy it

I hope omnimaga continue to live. if it doesnt become active like last winter i hope at least it doesnt become less active. But we are starting to get ages at least, the website originally opened on april 9th 2004:

http://omnimaga.unitedti.org/index_v1.html

in may 2005 it became in forum form and since then we got 34000+ posts. Technically if things go well near the end of july 2007 we should have joined the club of the 50000 posts forums

No BASIC draw functions?!
That sounds like a challenge that would keep us busy for a while. Yeah it would suck until xlib and friends are ported, but homescreen only is how it always starts.

I like "CDI" because it is short.  Zeromus sounds better though, to me.

I'll probably be here for a while...I plan to finish out at least two projects (CB and Necro's Puzzle someday) and have at least two new ones to show soon.

i've been here for this long, and I got Bluecrimson for another 9 months, so I'm probably gonna be sticking around.

Of course, if you ask around, people think I left sometime around 2000 :)smile.gif

As for the Nspire draw functions, thats what I'm seeing from the beta manual. This could change by the time final hardware ships.

Fryedsoft:

You have any programming plans?? I am just curious. I thought before you mentioned that you had a game or two you wanted to work on/finish.

I was sure you left around early 2003 O_Oshocked2.gif by the news on your old site, but then i saw you were starting working on a project back in 2005, then you started posting on EPS forums, then when Omnimaga got their own forums you posted here. After the 9 month are you still planning to continue bluecrimson tho?
