Lots of new TI-84 Plus C related images!
« on: January 18, 2013, 06:18:06 pm »
After the official press release earlier today, TI website has now been updated for the TI-84 Plus C SE.

We can see on their new page (http://education.ti.com/en/us/products/calculators/graphing-calculators/ti-84-plus-c-silver-edition), much more details than in the press release:

Screenshots of the calculator itself while graphing stuff, and it's much better in color than on the previous B&W models...

Exclusive image combining the "school property" model and for the first time in public, the TI-Smartview 4.0 software, with a 84C emulator :

Other images with the new TI-SmartView 4.0 and the new TI-Connect 4.0 :

We can see details on the rechargeable battery : 800 mAh, 2.96Wh, like the one in the TI-Nspire CM-C available in China:

The Kickstand (was already there) :

Screeshots of well-known apps of the 84+, now ported for the 84C :

WOOOO! Nice images :o
I'd love to see it one day, I hope it comes out soon in Europe too :)

And is the battery indicator working? :P
That's be hilarious if it didn't xp but also very frustrating I guess...
Well, it's kinda normal that the battery is always at 100% here, it's computer images, that explains a lot :)

Is there any information on pricing yet? I may get one, but I don't want to spend upwards of $100 on a calculator I probably won't program all that much compared to my computers
I currently don't do much, but I am a developer for a game you should totally try out called AssaultCube Reloaded download here https://assaultcuber.codeplex.com/

Even with that gorgeous screen they still managed to make one ugly default font lol.

Did we ever get CPU specs?

Well, I feel snubbed. I.Q. Joe gets to beta test the calculator---or at least the new SDK---but nobody from the community does.

Price: $130 USD from SchoolMart. I specifically mention them because they're within driving distance for me.

* shmibs hopes that it doesn't pose too much of a problem for tilp... and that LCD update times and required RAM don't make decent programs impossible.

It likely uses the same link protocol, since linking directly with older calculators is supported. Of course, we'll have to add in support for the new OS and APP formats.

New OS and app formats? The apps will simply use a different signing key, and the OS will also use the same format, just a different key.

Well, that's possible but we can't know for sure. I'm not sure if there will need to be any changes made to support 3MB APPs, for example.

I would expect more from what I have to assume they made as a prizm competitor. They have the native asm support, but I'd hope for specs that were close to matching the prizm. It has about 1/5th the RAM of the prizm. I still think this is an interesting calc for how it should be a very easy/popular transition for schools.

Based on the spec saying that the calculator has 21 K of user RAM, it seems reasonable to conclude that the OS is largely based on previous OSes, especially the parts of it not related to the user interface. Ergo, the OS and boot code required for OS and app transfers is already valid. It just doesn't make sense to write an entirely new protocol. It's possible that TI will modify the computer-side 8xk format to prevent people from trying to send a TI-84+CSE app to a regular-series calculator, but I highly doubt any major changes in the protocol.

I think the ugly fonts are to ensure that BASIC programs look as similar as possible on both the monochrome and color models. I actually like the fonts better than on the PRIZM.

Also this calc probably uses 8192 bits RSA keys. I'm sure TI is scared that a super-secret group of TI community member is building a massive computer clusters all over the world to be able to crack a 2048 bit RSA key in less than 1 month, so they probably won't take any chance. :P

Frankly I like the old 96*64-screen font better than this one. It looks like they spent about 10 minutes max on it, and the work done by someone who knows next to nothing about what letters are supposed to look like. :/
They even managed to fudge up the > and > symbols somehow 0.o
Battery indicator could use some work too..
Edit: looks like they've changed the multiplication sign since the last screenshots. It's a start..

So the battery pack's different from the one in the CX?
