March 2010: busiest month in Omnimaga history
« on: April 02, 2010, 11:40:12 pm »
Now that this busy March month is over, it's time to compile stats. Looking at the statistics, March 2010 is definitively the busiest month in Omnimaga history in terms of posting and for the new board, the busiest in terms of traffic (altough we do not recall ever getting this much traffic on the old board, remembering how our old stat counter increased by only about 100000 during the busiest months). Anyway, this month was a record one:

-First of all, the most notable record breaking was the monthly post count one. For the first time ever, Omnimaga forums got at least 5000 posts in one single month with a total of 5322, beating by far April 2006 record of 4047 in the process and the new board record of 2614 set one month earlier. This 5322 is a 203% increase over last month.
-Secondly, that month was the first time the new Omnimaga forum gets days with 200+ posts. Such thing even occured 9 times that month alone, one of which was over 300 with 362 messages.
-During the final hour of 2006, Netham45 and Tenniskid493 posted about 600 messages together in the Randomness forum to try to get the last post before New Year 2007. If we exclude that record of 669 posts in one day, March 23rd 2010 is now the most active day in Omnimaga history, with a total of 362 messages (one year ago, it took over an entire week to get that many).
-There have been only 4 days under 100 posts that month and only 9 under 150. None were under 50.
-There have also been a total of 379828 page requests in March 2010 (304587 forum hits), beating our record of 268161 (234184 forum hits) set two months earlier. In daily average, IT'S OVER NINE THOUSAND!!!!!
-We also reached a record amount of unique visitors on the site in a month, for a total of 95857, beating November 2009 record of 78144.

Besides records, some milestones were hit too in March!

-First of all, in 2010 we alerady broke the 10000 posts mark with a total of 10527 (about 55% of the entire english z80 calculator community activity). In 2009, it took an entire year to get only 4477 more.
-Since August 25th 2008, this SMF incarnation of Omnimaga got 1 million unique visitors and will most likely reach 3 million page requests next month.

Here is a graph showing an overview of Omnimaga posting activity since May 12th 2005 and traffic since September 1st 2008 below. Click it to open a bigger version.

Current board stats can be viewed at http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?action=stats, as always.

On an unrelated note, some forum theme settings were changed. Hopefully, it might speed up page displaying slightly.

I would like to thank all the members we got who stuck around. ^^ Also I was happy that most of the early to mid 2009 members stayed around after the summer. Often people leave after summer.

I hope you return and be more active, though ^^ I liked when you were around regulary, altough I understand life issues can suck sometimes x.x

Is it me or have a lot of old members returned in the TI community in the past few months? Even on UTI I see more old faces these days. On MaxCoderz, I saw a post by a member who signed up back in 2002 on their old board.

Well, the actual problem is - currently - that I don't have a dedicated line (DSL) in Edewecht. (the town I moved to)
Right now this is no problem because we have holidays and I'm back home at my grandparents. But from the 6th of April 2010 on, I'll be back in Edewecht. The next time I'm here for a visit will probably be 16th to 18th of April. In the meantime I'll have to surf via the Mobile-net (USB-Stick) or visit the school library  :P
I hope this was not too detailed...

It was a happy month for Omnimaga. and for me.

Is safe to say Omnimaga is more successful than ever?
I am more excited about the participation of new people in the forum and traffic to here than the post count. ;)

I personally noticed I have set a new record for myself this month - it is the only forum I have ever been in the top 20 posters in the first month of arrival, with little to no spam on forums that count it.

I would say it's more successful than ever, even more than the old board.

This time there are much more projects in the works. On the old board, when we had 4000 posts in a month, 1000 or so were in the Randomness sub-forum in the "count to 8000" thread and about 500 were in the misc discussion section. On the old board, the total amount of projects discussion compared to the entire board activity was about 19%, while on the new board, it's over 40%. I also monitored most posts as well, and there's a major quality increase for them.

Basically quality > quantity, but when we can keep quality high even with high quantity, it's good :P

I think the main reason that the old members showed up was the nspire crack hype, added with calc84's 83+emulator on nspire, etc... I hope this keeps up!

Spoiler For funny life mathematics:
1. ROMANCE MATHEMATICS
Smart man + smart woman = romance
Smart man + dumb woman = affair
Dumb man + smart woman = marriage
Dumb man + dumb woman = pregnancy
2. OFFICE ARITHMETIC
Smart boss + smart employee = profit
Smart boss + dumb employee = production
Dumb boss + smart employee = promotion
Dumb boss + dumb employee = overtime
3. SHOPPING MATH
A man will pay $2 for a $1 item he needs.
A woman will pay $1 for a $2 item that she doesn't need.
4. GENERAL EQUATIONS & STATISTICS
A woman worries about the future until she gets a husband.
A man never worries about the future until he gets a wife.
A successful man is one who makes more money than his wife can spend.
A successful woman is one who can find such a man.
5. HAPPINESS
To be happy with a man, you must understand him a lot and love him a little.
To be happy with a woman, you must love her a lot and not try to understand her at all.
6. LONGEVITY
Married men live longer than single men do, but married men are a lot more willing to die.
7. PROPENSITY TO CHANGE
A woman marries a man expecting he will change, but he doesn't.
A man marries a woman expecting that she won't change, and she does.
8. DISCUSSION TECHNIQUE
A woman has the last word in any argument.
Anything a man says after that is the beginning of a new argument.

Girls = Time * Money (Girls are a combination of time and money)
Time = Money (Time is money)
Girls = Money squared (So, girls are money squared)
Money = sqrt(Evil) (Money is also the root of all evil)
Girls = sqrt(Evil) squared (So, girls are the root of all evil squared)
Girls = Evil (Thus, girls are evil)
*Girls=Evil credit goes to Compynerd255*

Yeah, true, considering even United-TI, which didn't have this much of an activity increase, had old members return. I think last Summer contest, the emulators (TI-Boy SE/gbc4nspire) and other projects like Axe language helped a lot, too.

UTI got an activity increase in Jan/Feb compared to the same months in 2009, but the activity increase was far less signifiant than Omnimaga and to a lesser extent Cemetech. I don't know for TI-BASIC Developer. Revsoft appears to work more behind the scenes, now.

Altough we're now in April, today, we have broke another record: 59 members logged in. For the first time ever, the Users Logged In Today list wrapped on five lines of text in 1024x768, the board minimum resolution. On my resolution of 1920x1080, it wrapped on 3 lines for the first time. (I think kikkak is a spambot, though). On the old board, I do not recall ever seeing more than 30 different nicknames the same day, even during busy days. Back then, we had a lot of activity, but much fewer visitors/active members. Here are screenshots in both res
