Ndless 3.1 showcased on TCAP, Tetrizm on HCWP
« on: November 26, 2011, 10:51:24 pm »
While I was at work, on the 6th edition of TCAP, the French calculator-related voice chat, Adriweb showcased Ndless 3.1:

(image from TI-Planet)

As you can see in the screenshot of the webcams, it was running nDoom. In the source news about this, more images are available, one showcasing gbc4nspire and another mViewer. The new version of Ndless, renamed to 3.1 instead of 3.0 due to its compatibility with OS 3.1.0, also ran Nover and Mandelbrot. Ndless 3.1 was tested by Adriweb on the TI-Nspire CAS Clickpad and Critor on the CAS Touchpad. We do not know if it runs on regular Clickpad and Touchpad models yet, but hopefully it should. Note that it won't run on the CX models, though, due to a strong protection against any abnormal OS behavior (such as when an Ndless program is launched). There are speculations that this protection might be hardware-based.

According to the TI-Planet news, the beta-tester version of Ndless 3.1 seemed pretty stable, not ever rebooting during its usage. Assuming TI won't try blocking it immediately, could this mark the return of ASM/C games on old Nspire models for people running OS the most recent OS, 3.1.0, soon?

In other calculator-related news, something else was showcased via video chat conference mediums, by KermMartian and tifreak8x, on the original HCWP: Tetris for the Casio PRIZM!

Idk. It might eventually do, like it might never. However with the TI community we never know. In 1999 we discovered the 83+ hard an hardware protection against programs above 8 KB code size, then 12 years later BrandonW and Thepenguin77 managed to break it.

Well, naturally there is some way to work around it. The easiest way would be to mimic the OS in how it interacts with this (watchdog?) hardware, but of course the preferred solution is to disable it entirely, which might not be possible to figure out just by reverse engineering the OS.

The way Ndless seems to be evolving (and the speed, too) is amazing!
