I would expect that the new NAND chip has a slightly different interface, and makes it impossible for the old boot2 to interface with it. I think that nlaunch might not be possible because the older OSs are probably not compatible with the new Nand chip.
Also, is it possible that there is a jtag interface on the dock connector?

The boot1 version is the same and it doesn't make sense to me to include drivers in boot1 which aren't included in boot2 and vice versa.
But then it's TI.

You can never tell which model you're getting in terms of J and L models. They must still be selling out of J models and then getting the L model's in. The person who has the L model that I referred to must've gotten it new in America (most likely) and not from Europe.
