Yeah true, especially those who don't backup their claim. I rated down your post Boot2490 btw (since you want to know which ones are)

Is that any better? (Edited)
I'm not worried about SOPA creating censorship, that will not stand for long. I'm worried that they'll succeed in stopping piracy!

That isn't as bad although that still doesn't backup the claim justifying the Opera bashing (especially over IE). In any case it's better to avoid trolling or any kind of software wars to prevent starting fights/controversy. ALso you're lucky no one quoted your post x.x

EDIT: Oh No I just quoted the post

Chrome > Firefox > IE > Opera.
IMHO.
Those who say that are likely to have not tried Opera. Sure, Opera has some minor page compatibility issues not present in other browsers but generally it's quite a nice browser. It's also the most customisable (user interface-wise) by far of all of the browsers as you can change each aspect of the interface even move the opera button and all toolbars without any extra addons. The rss features are nicely integreated into Opera MailThe reason it isn't so popular is because it used to cost money, and then be ad-sponsored, and finally I think in 2005 it became freeware. It has always been a niche browser with some special features that others don't have.

Chrome is fast becoming the most dominant browser, mainly because of its simple interface. an omnibar (no pun intended), automatic updating, and unique shaped tabs on top (was the first browser to do so) has caused many people to switch to Chrome even though they have used Firefox in the past. Though personally for me it still has some issues with Save As. Dialogue boxes it has a very nice, clean look.

Firefox has lost some ground recently due to issues for it taking too much ram and not responding quite often. This was during the late 3.6/4.0b6 onwards stage. I quit firefox at that time because of two issues. Aero would be disabled often, and also I would have a very annoying white pixel on the firefox button. I myself switched to chrome for fast simple browsing. However ever since the release of firefox 4 and onwards, firefox has gotten significantly faster and is catching up with chrome. Too bad chrome's market share is catching up with firefox http://gs.statcounter.com .
Still it is the browser with the most addons, and there is going to be a new user interface from firefox 9 onwards called australis (search it on google!) and it looks awesome! Tablet - Friendly too! I might even switch to Firefox as my main browser if something better from the competition doesn't come out.

We all know about how bad IE used to be so I won't go into too much detail on that. However we must acknowledge that Microsoft has made a great effort in IE9. It's still not amazingly what we expected to be, but IE9 was mainly a catchup browser for Microsoft, and I feel that Microsoft is back in the race for browsers, with its minimalist interface, similar to Chrome's and with Internet Explorer 10 on the way I believe that Microsoft is heading in the right direction

Finally there's Apple Safari for windows. No significant updates have been provided for Safari in the last few years, and it is starting to fall behind with the other browsers. The iTunes style interface is still quite appealing, but may not be for those people who like Aero Glass. Still its good for those Apple fans who like the Safari on Mac feeling

Overall There is a great choice of browsers suited for particular people. They all have their own advantages and disadvantages. Even though I use Chrome mainly and Firefox sometimes, usually at the same time as Chrome (don't ask me, I just like to do that) other browsers are still viable options for your main browser/s. It took me a while too until I stopped criticizing IE so harshly. Hopefully I have given a brief (otherwise it would be a crazy article!) unbiased account of the 5 major browsers for those seeking one.

You can do that with Firefox as well, you just have to know where to put a custom CSS file. ( I do this myself to clean up the interface a tad on linux )

Strange, I am in the nightly channel for firefox ( Currently 10.0a1 ) and this is the first I've heard of this UI change.

Ram consumption is also going down significantly ( as long as you don't have sites with memory leaks open. )

Hi eeems, I also have nightly 10.0a1. The interface changes haven't appeared as of yet, but apparently they will put it in firefox 9 or 10 sometime.

I used to use Firefox, but starting in Firefox 1.07 I would get crashes every 30 second or so for absolute no reason. Also FF took 1 minute to startup on my 2.93 GHz computer, so eventually I got sick of it and switched to Opera. It took until Opera becomes freeware that I switch to it, though. Afterward I got used to Opera more and more and never switched back. I would like Chrome if I could enable the menu bar that set the standard in Windows (and even Mac) programs in the past, because I hate the new style of menu now. In Opera 11 I disabled it completely and switched back to the standard File, Edit, View bar. Firefox 3 and above seems stable again, but I never could get used again to it after using Opera for so long. Anyway each person use the browser they like the best, although in IE case they should not complain about non-working sites as long as IE is not W3C compliant.

firefox 9

Lol Firefox updates really fast
I had ff 3
and the next month I had 4
and the next week I had 5 O.O

But Opera is slow, incompatible, has a complicated and cumbersome interface, crashed all three times I used it before giving up, and simply just is generally not as good as others. There. I backed up my claim. You didn't even give me a chance to do so before you downrated me!

Firefox has switched to a rapid release schedule ( every couple months or so they release a new version ). This has created some issues with addons but they have been coming up with solutions to that issue. The rapid release schedule has forced them to get a lot more done though and each version just keeps on getting better :)

Alright, lets get rid of the browser wars before they start. No more arguing about which browser sucks/is better and why/why not.

Well it was because the software bashing/war starting attempt started without a claim backup, hence the downvoting. Normally it should have come immediately. I personally had no problem with Opera speed (in fact for me it's the fastest) although I do know some sites are incompatible in it.

Anyway I agree Eeems. And yeah I noticed FF releases seems fast now. I mean just a few months ago I downloaded Nightly 7 or something :P

Nightly 10 right now :P
Yeah their new rapid release process is great ( IMHO ) it allows them to get security fixes out faster, and to get new content out to us to use way faster.

Yea, but they keep touting each release like it's a giant deal. That's been bugging me.

Does the rapid number increase also means more feature releases though? Or is it like just minor updates between versions? Some people say they just do that to make the number as high as other browsers.

Some do, others don't. I know for sure that 8+ have a better JavaScript engine. 9+ is suppose to have a new UI ( Not in the nightlies yet ).
The new major versions aren't as big as they use to be, and they do tote them a little more then they should like Netham mentioned ( well not everybody does but some do ).

I don't think they are trying to get as big of a number as everybody else, there is no way they would be able to catch up with Chrome anyways ( Chrome has a rapid release schedule as well ).

Opera will most likely need to be faster at releasing updates then, else it will fall behind too much in terms of web rendering.
