Good news is that there is no downgrade protection.  I went from a 2.43 OS to a 2.55 and back. It worked fine.
What about WFRNGOS, PongOS and available versions of KOS?
I actually can't afford to waste too much time but I'll try and check this out :D
See what I can come up with, and maybe it's time to update my PTT patch again, sometime. But not now.
Keep in mind the new PTT adds some more features, though. You might want to check for that too.

hmm, the easy way to detect downgrade protection is simply by checking if 2.43 is still up for download.  Just in case... I think everyone should keep a copy of 2.43 handy.

If TI REALLY WANTS TO SCREW US, Then downgrade protection would be a way.  But, a ti8x version of nleash would probably be made a few days later :P

True. I am certain a downgrade protection removal would be done darn quick. The 83+ series was documented for much longer than the Nspire, anyway. Just take a look at WikiTI.

Plus, documentation or not, look at the Casio Prizm: it started getting hacked before it even came out and 3rd party machine code was run on z80man's calc a few days ago already. :P

Woah, a new OS!  I'd download it if it wasn't so buggy. :-\

I wonder what's with TI after years of not updating their OSes. Why all of a sudden are they updating them? So very odd... It doesn't really affect me anyways as I don't own a TI-84.

I'M not sure. I wonder if it could be to encourage people to buy a 84+ over the cheaper 83+ to make more money. Until recently, the 84+ was just a 83+ with a few more archive, faster processor, a clock almost nobody cares about due to resetting on RAM clears and an USB port. A 83+ over here is $90 sometimes when the school year starts, while a 84+ is almost $150. Most parents probably prefer to go for the cheaper calc.

Here, An 83+ is $90, no 83+SE available, 84+ $120, 84+SE 130-140

Also, why would TI care if we preferred 2.43? it still has press-to-test, and 2.55's new PTT features aren't applicable to 2.43, since it doesn't have the new functions it blocks, stuff like logbase came out in 2.53. Hopefully, it's a community response that fixes at least a few bugs, but keeps the MP, which I'm all for.

After patching and resigning the 2.55MP OS, you can get this on your TI-83+ ! :P

In fact, it's very unstable on a basic TI-83+, as the 2.55MP OS is using 48Kb RAM (and the basic TI-83+ only has 32Kb RAM).

But it works on a TI-83+SE (128Kb RAM).

So you can upgrade your TI-83+SE to a TI-84+SE with the patch (without the clock and the USB obviously).

Really?  ??? That seems rather quick.
*Edit*Ah, your responese ninja'd me. It does seem more likely it would function better on the 83+ SE. =) Still very quick work nonetheless!  ;D
*Edit 2:* What about the clock and USB functions, does it crash if you try to access them or does the patch remove access to them?
*Edit 3* Ninja'd again, this time by will...  <_<

what happens if you press mode and try to look at the clock? does it crash, or just output garbage?
