what happens if you press mode and try to look at the clock? does it crash, or just output garbage?

The clock is frozen with a 1986 date.
Secs aren't increased.

Setting the clock doesn't change anything: you're back in 1986 immediatly.

Wow, I feel like I'm watching back to the future now. (Even though that was 1985) ;D

Well, that's good. it would be a pain to never be able to access mode.

Credits for the patch go to BrandonW.

He made the 1st patch to install the 2.53MP OS on a TI-83+SE.

I just made exactly the same modifications in the 2.55MP OS, having just to recalculate the checksums.

By the way, seems we're going to have a 2.56MP 84+ ROM in the next basic TI-Nspire OS (supposed to be 2.2 in february).

Ah, I was wondering how it came about so quickly. That explains things. Still very nice. I'd love to test on my 83+ SE, but it's kind of... deadish at the moment. :/

I don't remember the boot code having a downgrade protection feature. Even if it did, it would have to be certificate-based. A certificate-based restriction could easily be undone by restoring your certificate from an older backup. What? You don't keep backups of your certificate? Shame.

Also, the TI-Boy issue can be solved by first copying the extra OS page to the 32 K sector, and then proceeding as normal. For that matter, you could patch the new OS to use that dang 32 K sector instead.

Hmm, trying 2.55 now...

Insofar as I can tell, it doesn't seem to conflict with anything I have...
My website: Currently boring.

Projects:
Axe Interpreter
   > Core: Done
   > Memory: Need write code to add constants.
   > Graphics: Rewritten.  Needs to integrate sprites with constants.
   > IO: GetKey done.  Need to add mostly homescreen IO stuff.
Croquette:
   > Stomping bugs
   > Internet version: On hold until I can make my website less boring/broken.

TI should get a new programming team
It's probably not a team anymore.

In fact, it's very unstable on a basic TI-83+, as the 2.55MP OS is using 48Kb RAM (and the basic TI-83+ only has 32Kb RAM).

But it works on a TI-83+SE (128Kb RAM).

So you can upgrade your TI-83+SE to a TI-84+SE with the patch (without the clock and the USB obviously).
Nice!

Install on a 83+, yes.
Make it work properly, no...

It only works on 83+SE.

83+SE is not the same as 83+.

Do you mean $3C/$7C-$3D/$7D or $2A/$6A-$2B/$6B? IIRC the former already contains OS code, and with respect to the latter the .8xu format can't have the OS anywhere except the first and last sixteen pages.

Huh. I thought the sector at 7Ch was unused.
