OS 3.3 available for the TI-Nspire CX CAS

In a previous news, we announced the release in Saudi Arabia of the 3.3 version of TI-Nspire system. This version added a 16th supported language, Arabic. But note that this addition was undoubtedly much more complicated than the Chinese one in 3.0 versions, since to respect the Arab writing from right to left, all the TI-Nspire interface was reversed horizontally:

However, we never could get our hands on this OS up to now. Indeed, it hasn't been released through TI's servers, but only through its school distributor network in Saudi Arabia.


However this evening, a TI-Planet member did finally send it to us for the TI-Nspire CX CAS! ;)

The complete version number is 3.3.0.538.

Unlike OS 3.2.4, this OS still have the Boot2 3.1.0.16 and so doesn't prevent Nlaunch installation if you still haven't installed OS 3.2.4 with its Boot2 3.2.4.7! ;D

However OS 3.3.0.538 installation raises the minimum version of installable OS on the calculator to 3.2.0.1229. Officially, following its installation, it becomes impossible to return to the OS 3.1 and use Ndless. But in practice, you just have to use Nlaunch which just ignores the minimal version. If needed, Ndless utility nsNandMgr then allows you to reset the minimal version and to put back your calculator in the same state it was in before installing this 3.3 OS. :)

As far as features go, does Arabic/RTL support seem to be the only new feature? (Not that it's a small change—seems like Arabic mode reverses everything including the order of the icons.)

As far as we know, Arabic support would be the only new feature.
But we haven't tested very thoroughly yet.

Yeah, apparently this update is only for Arabic/RTL support, nothing else AFAIK.
But yes, it's somewhat of a big change in code, I suppose.

(Or not "so" much if it was done with an adaptative layout in mind at first, but eh :P)

Yeah the OS was mentionned for quite a while, but for some reasons never publicly released. Nothing new but at least if it's available for download for Arabic people then it's a good move by TI.

You say we cannot downgrade to 3.1 Ndless. What about downgrading to 3.2 and then to 3.1???

The minimal installable version stored in NAND can be increased by the OS but never decreased.

Yes, version 3.6 just came out last month. It supports OS 3.6, but nLaunch will not work on hardware J or higher, so you'll have to re-install Ndless after every reboot (like with Ndless 1.1).

Where can I get Ndless for 3.6? I have a TI-Nspire CX rev. D

Also, does it really work? Because I don't want to get screwed and being locked in 3.6 if Ndless doesn't work...

Yes it really works. If you already have Nlaunch set up, use that directly though.
