PRIZM LAN party by Qwerty.55 & z80man goes wrong
« on: April 18, 2011, 04:35:09 pm »
To celebrate their last night promotion from the Anti-Riot Squad to the Omnimaga Coders of Tomorrow programming team, Qwerty.55 and z80man, who are big contributors in the z80 and especially Casio development scene, met up at z80man's school to organize a PRIZM calculator LAN party where many local students that owned that calculator model were invited. However, the party, held in a small room during the lunch break, had to end earlier than expected, after some students started showing signs of illness due to the increased smell of the 38 overclocked calculators.

The idea was sparked after the PRIZM online developer community discovered the possibility that the CPU in the fx-cg10 could go up to 348 MHz instead of 116 MHz. As a result, both our new CoT members teamed up to create a bare-bone 2-player first-person shooter engine that sets the CPU speed to the highest possible upon launch. After their staff promotion on Omnimaga last night, they decided to invite as many Prizm owners as possible to try the game demo in a small room. However, as many people in the TI community reported, "The Casio Prizm smells like it came out of a burned factory", even if the battery cover was left open for days, and overclocking the 38 calculators only caused the smell coming out of the gaming handhelds to be many times worse due to heating, resulting in some students becoming sick after inhaling too much of it.

As of now, the students appear to be fine, but they were all sent back home earlier in case, and the game has been removed from all calculators as a precaution. This occurs after a report about a Prizm burning ceremony that claimed the lives of 3 people a few months ago.

After these events, our two new team members have decided that from now on, 116 MHz shall be the max speed they will set their programs to.

"We thought the TI-Nspire exploding batteries reported on TI-BANK were dangerous enough. We didn't realize playing "Call Of Duty: Quadratic-Enhanced" on a 384 MHz graphing calculator would be as bad. Maybe we should switch to HP instead", said Qwerty.55, after the incident.

Congratulations Qwerty.55 and z80man, hope it wasn't too bad (the explosion).

"Maybe we should switch to HP instead", said Qwerty.55, after the incident." Yeah definitely.

Call Of Duty: Quadratic-Enhanced?  Any screenshots?

But that aside, it's good to know everyone was alright.  This is not a funny situation.

To clarify, the two following things in the news are real:

-Both staff promotions (notice their green nicknames)
-The PRIZM smelling bad

:P

yeah, the prizm does smell weird :P
I though that it was because it was really new, or something, though.

Most new electronics smells like that, but not this much. Also the smell normally goes away after a while, and with my Prizm it did not even come close to do so.
