Hi there !
Some time ago, the 84+Pocket SE was presented with high quality pictures of the 'new' TI-84+ Pocket SE (for Silver Edition).
Unfortunately, this model is not available for sale in French stores or European / American.
It is indeed restrained to the Chinese market only (for now ?).
Well I had the honor to receive (Thanks to TI) this calculator by mail yesterday!
Here are some real exclusive pictures of the packaging of the calc !
The package from the front reveals the calculator and its USB cable, but surprises us with its inscriptions in English and examinations stuff in North America such as SAT, ACT, AP and IB.
(http://tiplanet.org/forum/gallery/image.php?mode=thumbnail&image_id=671) (http://tiplanet.org/forum/gallery/image_page.php?image_id=671)
But it is indeed an Asian packaging as we can see on the back above the barcode.
Perhaps it's a habit to have a package in English and refer to these USA exam things for calculators marketed in Asia.

The back of the packaging also reveals the four included AAA batteries, and technical specifications of this model and of others.
The TI-84 Plus Pocket SE therefore has 1.5MB of archive memory (2MB ROM chip) and 24KB of user memory (48K RAM chip, probably), just like the TI-84 Plus Silver Edition.
One can notice the error on the packaging where it is assigned the same capacity as the ROM TI-84 Plus: 480Ko (1MB ROM chip).
Anyway ... more soon ;-)

TI-Planet, always one step ahead!

I thought it was out already? ???
Also the Nspire part can be misleading. It doesn't talk about the CX models, so people might only see CX in stores and expect interchangeable keypads.
-
Wow, cool. It is weird that they would put US information on it :P I don't think the Chinese will be taking those exams XD
-

Yep, but we didn't have any real photos :)
-
well that about the exchangeable keypad confuses me too.. that's kinda weird to put it on a new package, since the nspire now is the cx
but did you just get it for free!? nice :) i want it too xp
-
True I was surprised to see that feature mentionned Nick. After all, the 84+SE Pocket came out after the CX, right? (Unless TI decided to not discontinue monochrome Nspires?)
-
Hey, thanks for posting pics adriweb. Can I haz? :P I really hope they release this in the US eventually.
-
Very nice! An interesting question is if it, like the 84+ Pocket, is unable to swap RAM into $4000-$7FFF via port $06. Unfortunately, I think that would be a yes. Can you test that? (It's pretty simple; I or various others could tell you how.) I take it that it has boot code version 1.03 and the OS is 2.55MP?
-
so that picture means that it'll be selling in US soon? :D
(Along with old 83+ and 84+SE and 84+ black edition :P)

Techpoweredmath.com seems to have some inside scoop about a new line of nspires called the nspire cx+! According to the website it has the ability to play music and sync with itunes. Thats all it mentioned about the new cx but I wonder what ti could have kept confidental. Check out the link here if you're interested. http://www.techpoweredmath.com/apple-texas-instruments-form-alliance/

That's an April Fool's joke. ;)
-
I was kind of skeptical at first seeing it was written on April 1st but who know what ti will do next ::). Sorry :-[

What error do you get when clicking New Topic? (or maybe you are in the news section, which doesn't let people start topic)
-
Nice pics! I hope this gets released in the US! :)
-
I wouldn't mind getting one of these as a present. Hint-hint... :P
Are there an annoying downgrades compared to the original Ti-84+ se?

Hi there,
Here are some more photos I took :)

It looks very cute! /me wants
Does it have a slide-case as well?
-
nice. :)

Nope, since it's not made for any slidecase. It does come withe a fake-leather cover thing :)
-
idk if somebody posted this or not, but how good is the HW?
-
Oh, better than nothing. :) Also how much do these 'goodies' costs?
-
Do you think you could test TI-Boy SE and make sure it works? Newest version is in this thread (http://ourl.ca/15532). You can try a simple game like Tetris, since that definitely works in TI-Boy and is only a 3-page APP.
-
Sure I'll try :)
Also @TBE_Young : the HW is exactly the same as a 84+SE
-
Boot code 1.03 :D. My work is already done.
-
Wow the calc looks really small, now that I see a real pic of it besides other calcs. That makes me wish we had that in hi school back then, so it would have been less annoying to carry in my pocket.

Exactly.
-
What does the cover look like? Is it just like some sort of pouch?
Edit: nvm http://tiplanet.org/forum/gallery/image_page.php?image_id=676
-
I thought there was no cover?

I really want to see this for myself. It's a change that just seems totally unjustifiable, for it seems that the money that TI paid to an engineer to make the change would be more than the money TI could ever hope to save.
Anyway, it's almost certainly the case that the SE and non-SE have completely identical PCBs, except for the flash chip. On the non-pocket models, the boot code has to inform the ASIC which model calculator you are so the ASIC knows which sectors to block writes/erases to.

As I said there isn't any hard cover like any sliding cases on most TI calcs, but justa fake-leather thing to put the calc in :)

There is no reason to believe that the change was intentional -- and in fact, initial indications are that the 84+SE Pocket does not have the same problem with swapping RAM pages that the 84+ Pocket.fr does. Perhaps it's also related to the model port...something worth trying on the 84+ Pocket.fr (changing it and seeing if the problem still exists, that is).
