Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. OK. I didn't know about that. I thought it was some kind of forum security thing. Like making ppl under 40 posts not able to view omnomIRC cuz they might be bots. OK. I understand.

Personally, I still think the minimum respect should be lowered. To me it seems to alienate members like me who have been here a while but don't pull in huge amounts of +1's.

I think it would be perhaps best to either lower the respect count, or add in a minimum post count that a member could alternatively fulfill. I think by then they'd have an idea of how to handle +/-1's.

But as it is right now, it makes the tool seem like an "elite" privilege that only very respected members can view. Because, at least from my viewpoint, +50 is __not__ easy to get to.

Late last night, Quebec was invaded by a group calling themselves, "Omnimaga". Not much is known about these mysterious people except that they all carried calculators of some kind and they all seemed to converge on one house in particular. Experts estimate that the combined power of their fabled calculators is greater than all the worlds super computers put together. The group seems to be holding out in the home of a certain DJ_O, who the Omnimagians claim to be their founder. Such power has put the world at a standstill with everyone waiting to see what the Omnimagians will do...

Wait... This just in, the Omnimagians have sent the UN a list of demands that must be met or else the world will be "submitted to the wrath of Netham45's Lobster Army". Such demands include >9001 crates of peanuts, sacrificial blue lobsters, and a wide assortment of cherry flavored items. With such computing power stored in the hands of such people, we can only hope these demands are met.

In the wake of these events, we can only ask, Why? Why do these people make these demands, what caused them to gather, and what are their future plans...

+1'd :P

but yes, your right. IDK how your supposed to get +1's. I got all my +1's from jokes (at least, all the ones i know about) :P . How is that supposed to prove that i'm elite?

^ Jokes? Wow. And I also agree with homer

The issue is that the users with lower respect are generally newer, and those users tend to react much more violently to getting -1'd than the more seasoned members. We've seen it happen quite a few times where people blow up after getting -1'd when they don't agree with it.
I wont blow up when getting -1 cuz -1 wont make me blow up but if i cant see my -1 then ill blow up instead of blowing up with -1 but ill blow up if i cant see -1 because of people blowing up, but i wont blow up if you let me but ill blow up if you dont let me see what you say will make me blow up, but now ill blow up.

I agree with Homer-16, the idea of having a minimum post count OR a minimum post rating count is very good.
Even people who have been around for a long time do not have +50 yet, and no spambot will be able to make a minimum post requirement,
such as 500 posts, so either way you know that you can trust that person enough to use this cool new tool.
But if nothing changes, that's ok. :) I'll stop bugging you now. :)
Now to get to +50... ;)

Ok, well, beyond the lowering of requirements, is there going to be a place to easily access this tool? It seems right now the only place is via this thread. Perhaps in the profile?

Yeah I agree it would be nice if we could access it via our profile. Also yeah I definitively think we should be able to access it even at 0 respect, but maybe only at 100 posts or so, so if a new member gets downrated on his first post because he said thanks after asking a question and someone rated him up before, he has less chances to take it badly. However from experience, even people with 100 rating and 4000 posts complained about downrating or lack of uprating in the past anyway.

It's your choice, though.

Is that tool server intensive? From my list, it seems like it could be, considering it's very long. That could possibly be another reason to limit its access.

By the way one idea I had for the rating system, to prevent someone from getting an obscene amount of negative ratings on a bad post just because it was posted in a popular thread where more people saw his post or vice-versa, or also to prevent friends from mass rating up someone's post, what I thought that would be nice is adding a minimum/maximum rating per posts. For example, the lowest rating a post can reach is -5 and the maximum is +5. If it reaches -5, the thumbs down icon is locked up and if it's +5, it's the thumbs up icon that gets locked up.

I just always thought that if someone screws up and gets -2, then apologises and get +25, it was not really deserved respect. I feel the person should at least to work up a bit more to get his rating up faster, such as making sure to not screw up again. Also, not to name anyone, but I sometimes noticed that certain forum members that posts somewhere will bring up the topic in question to friends and then you see a mob of registered users arriving in that thread, rating up the post in question and I even saw downrating of opposite opinions posts once. In some cases the post in question is midly controversial or biased, so I don't see why such post should deserve +8 respect if it risks instigating extra drama. Limiting the max/min score per post could definitively prevent someone from getting +100 respect just from 7-8 similar posts and it would stop mass downrating waves when someone screws up badly (I mean if the person gets -25 on a totally innapropriate post then he decides to be careful in the future, but that person isn't very active, he's gonna remain at -25 for a long while)

I fully agree, except for one thing- with the limit of +5, what about projects? many projects have posts that have +6 or more...

Actually it wouldn't affect old posts, just new ones. As for projects usually the person posts regular updates so obviously the updates will get a few points if they're somewhat big and rating rises that way.

Of course, however, such limitation would cause you to be unable to revert a rating cancellation/change on old posts. If for example an old post was rated +10 and you accidentally removed your rating, you would never be able to re-add it again unless the post eventually drops under +5.

Back in the days, Youtube had such restriction for a while too, but the bad thing is that an user could rate down a post multiple times (every 6 hour)
