The future of TI-BANK compromised
« on: May 12, 2011, 03:47:23 pm »
TI-BANK opened its door in 2002, under the name TI89Prog. It was renamed to TI-BANK in Late 2004. It started as a French TI-89/92+/v200 news and download site, then a few years later it branched out to all calculator models. By 2008 it started to become one of the main source of TI discoveries on the web, to finally become the most active French TI calculator community and the third most active TI calculator forum in the world. A lot of the programs and news for the TI community now come from there and the website averages at about 3000 unique visitors per day. The site also hosts plenty of useful resources for french students, tutorials on the usage of the calculator and hacking tools.

However, following certain unfortunate events, it appears that the future of TI-BANK is now uncertain, as the founder has discussed the possibility to shut the entire website down. Critor has brought up the matter (in French) there: http://tibank.forumactif.com/t7054-arret-de-ti-bank

It started after various bad events involving defamatory comments and false accusations said against TI-BANK and programs such as TNOC on the official Texas Instruments TI-Nspire forums. This caused tension to remain high and as a result, it was inevitable that another negative event could cause bad things to be said out of anger. As a result of bad things said about another teacher who punished a student for using his calculator to cheat, even though the student did not violate any calculator usage rules, TI-BANK owner, who is also a teacher, now worries about his job and has considered closing TI-BANK website as a whole.

Many people in this topic have tried to convince Mic, the site owner, to not close the site, but I think that the future of TI-BANK also concerns people from the English TI community, so I am bringing this up here. If you speak French, you can post your thoughts in the topic linked above and vote on the poll there, else you can post them in English here or there.

For now, TI-BANK continues to operate normally and we hope that it will continue to do so in long terms, but in case you might need certain tools or tutorials that are only available there, I suggest that you download them now in case they would vanish for good.

UPDATE (May 13th 2011): Critor has taken over TI-BANK administration from now on. The original admin will remain around, but less active. This means that TI-BANK will remain online.

Even though I do not frequent TI-Bank much, I would like it to remain online.  Not only is it a great source for tools like DJ pointed out, but it's also the number one French TI forum out there.  It should stay up because it is a vast source of knowledge to everyone, and I hope it stays that way.  Mic, if you read this, I really hope you leave TI-Bank up and running if you can.

This is very sad news. :(

TI-BANK has made a countless number of major contributions to the calculator community.  It would be extremely sad to see it fall.  I hope the issues will be worked out, and it will stay! :)

Oh my, I barely visit TI Bank but it has helped a lot with the Nspire hacking and all those useful tools of theirs. It is a the best TI French website and its archives are also fully loaded with lots of stuff. I really hope it doesn't close and wish it good luck.

I rarely visit Ti-Bank either, but closing the website only because of that? I don't agree. Looks like we have a case of ragequit...

I think it's due to frustration from various events that piled up. There were plenty of anti-TI-BANK comments in the past few months on Univers-TI-Nspire (the official French TI-Nspire forums), such as how they accused TI-BANK of bricking people calcs with TNOC. Now there was an issue about a teacher who punished a student for cheating with his calc with no proof and even though the student did not break any written rules, and Mic, who is also a teacher, got mad at such behavior. However because too many bad things occured lately, it was only a matter of time before bad stuff would be said. I didn't expect this, though, although I can understand the frustration, especially that his job might be compromised. I hope things turns out well.

BTW TI-BANK forums are hosted on a free forum hosting provider like Invisionfree. Like Invisionfree, they do not offer backups nor access to databases. If the forums were deleted or hacked, then it would be over.

Also TI-BANK is the 3rd most active TI forum in the world. First there is Omnimaga and Cemetech, sometimes Cemetech first, then behind there's TI-BANK. Omni also has a French section, but it's not even close to being as active as other forums, since it was mostly added to accomodate some of the French programmers who frequents here. I think during June TI-BANK sometimes even have more posts than us in total. This is to tell how important TI-BANK is to the community.

Hopefully they will stay open as TI-Bank is a huge hub of activity for the french speaking community. A great many things have started there.

I hope they stay open. they seem to be a great and vital part of the calc community. They create many of the greatest projects and utilities at least. I don't speak french so I don't understand or browse it much, but it seems to be a really nice place
I currently don't do much, but I am a developer for a game you should totally try out called AssaultCube Reloaded download here https://assaultcuber.codeplex.com/

Sigh.... This world is going mad... You really can't deny that. Companies that we have looked to... Sony, and now TI (not quite as bad as Sony)... But seriously... Why do people have to be so butt hurt all the time and take it out on people like the admin at TI-Bank and its users?

edit: sorry for the miscommunication there DJ_O :/ I should have been more clear

Jkag who is the butthurt comment directed at? Because I would like to ask you to play nice. If you directed that at TI-BANK admin, it was uncalled for, considering you don't know what kind of crap he might have went through, and if you don't understand that, then you're narrow-minded. I have to rate down your post until you can clarify otherwise.

Well his post wasn't worded in a quite easy to misinterpret way, then. I'Ll remove the tempban (it was a 3:15 hours ban) but he needs to edit his post, because it could easily be taken offensively by non-english native speakers from TI-BANK, especially with everything that happened.

Thank you. I was more concerned because people on TI-BANK posted a link to this topic there and it would have sounded like if we were bashing Mic X.x
