Although still costing around $300 in shops, the Stokes Publishing Company seems to be on the verge of discontinuing the only transparent graphing calculator in the world, the TI-73 Explorer overhead calculator they developped in partnership with TI.

Manufacturer units are currently being sold at the very low price of $25.
Even if you're not interested in the calculator, it's a real bargain when you know that the pack does include many accessories, among them the TI-Graph Link USB cable which alone costs higher than this !

The calculator can of course be reflashed exactly like a normal TI-73 Explorer calculator and is using the same OS and Boot Code.

Seriously, $25??? :O
I am almost tempted to get one even if I don't have a projector or anything. I am really curious if Chameleon would run on this...
I'm betting that they won't ship to Canada, right? <_<
-
Chameleon will run on it, as it's the same hardware and software as the TI-73 Explorer.
So yes, you can turn it into the non existent "The Educator TI-83 Plus overhead calculator".
Here's the webform order:

If it's not clear for Canada, you can still try to call them:

Of course, it's the price if you buy directly from the manufacturer. Not from your local dealer (there are several ones for Canada).

Ok thanks for the info. :)
-
Wow, that's pretty interesting. I'm surprised they're selling them so cheaply. :o
-
Oh snap, I would so want one of those packs. But I guess shipping to here would be expensive as hell, and they don't accept paypal, so getting the money across the ocean would be a huge hassle as well. :(
-
They do accept credit cards.
-
Wow, that is cheap :O
-
Damn, I want a transparent TI-83 Plus...
And the price is really insane. I got my Silverlink alone for hardly less than that when shipping/taxes are included :/
-
Yeah but on the company's website, the transparent 73 is only $25. Shipping will most likely cost you more than the actual item and it's actually cheaper than a link cable I think. :P

Works perfectly - just invented the "The Educator TI-83 Plus overhead calculator"! :D

Just got mine in the mail a couple of days ago:

Thanks again for sharing! It only cost $35 total ($10 of that was shipping), so it was quite a bargain.
-
Just ordered mine, but haven't received a confirmation email yet. Did they send those for you?
-
I got mine, I will certainly put chameleon on it... but the keypad... the keys don't match up to an 83... what can i do about that :'(
-
Are the keys on glass? If so I'd imagine you could scrape the paint off carefully and replace it with a new layer, but I haven't seen this personally so I have no idea if that's the case.
-
Even in plastic I think this could still be done, but it's much harder. On my older 83+, after a few years of use the paint on certain keys was already starting to come out.
-
Mine just arrived. It's a lot bigger and nicer than I expected :o
-
How large is it compared to a 83+?
-
I'd say about three times as large. It's meant to be easily visible on an overhead projector.
Keys are much more responsible than I feared (I've had bad experiences with glass buttons like these, but they work great) and the screen is crisp and can be adjusted for contrast. I'm going to install Chameleon tomorrow and see how it is as a TI-83 Plus :D
-
Seriously? Wow O.O
And glad to hear about the keys. I wonder how hard playing Fruit Ninja on this will be, though... :P

Whoa, that's a good idea!
I'd imagine it'd be easier—the keys are all flat and at the same height, after all.
