TI-83 & 84 Plus BASIC RPG Nostalgia video series
« on: March 18, 2009, 03:02:01 pm »
People who frequently use IRC and visits #omnimaga are probably alerady aware of this, but a bit more than one month ago, I started working on a series of videos on Youtube showing gameplay of TI-83+/84+/SE compatible BASIC RPGs made before xLIB APP came out. In other words, it covers stuff from as far as the '90s until Reuben Quest: The Lost Mirror release in January 2005, at which point xLIB APP was entering beta testing, about to replace Omnicalc and most older ASM libraries used by TI-BASIC programmers. Currently, ASM RPGs are not covered, altough there are possibility for a TI-83+ compatible ASM RPG video series in the future.

As for now, there are 20 videos out on Youtube and more will probably come soon. Note that all videos run at 15 MHz calculator speed. Those which were recorded on a 6 MHz calculator ROM emulated were doubled in speed to fit the 15 MHz calculator speed.

Ah, the memories 8)  It's amazing what was done before xLIB, and I had forgotten how friggin' awesome ASCII can be ;D

It's nice to see these again, especially since some of them aren't on ticalc anymore. :)

Anyone else completely unimpressed with the 'programming skills' of these two above? (EDIT: Just so you know, I'm referring to the posts above, not your actual programming skills. Sorry for any misunderstandings.)

In other news, I envy the programmer in the video. *wink*
I couldn't make ASCII even near that sexy.

You're just scared they'll make Nyaar look bad :P (as I'm scared they'll make Chip's Challenge look bad...)

I'm more referring to their "ZOMG I IS STORING A STRING AND USING OUTPUT() AS A POST LOLOLOL"
It's really just annoying.

For some reason I thought this was the "welcome noahbaby and trevmeister" thread...

{AP} That's pretty common in the TI community (altough not as much as it used to). My first UTI post (a question) was awnsered partially with a Lbl/Goto loop containing all steps to solve my problem :P but it was over 6 years ago

About all the RPGs in the videos, I will actually post a bit more, including maybe Age Of Darkness 2, altough it will be a bit short since there are no magic animations and the map is a real maze, not to mention i always get stuck in rooms with no exit (glitch?) so I'll prbly just screenshot a few battles and shopping, altough I'm LV 51 or so so battles will not look hard. And altough xLIB/Celtic is around these ASCII RPGs aren,t necessarly the last ones, though
