On the other hand, I just realized something: Since it was released after OS 2.55MP came out, chances are none of the previous OS versions will work
We never know, though, maybe the hardware will be modified so it is no longer accepting any OS under 2.55MPEDIT 2.55, not 2.71 X.x

The normal 84+ doesn't have any downgrade protection at all. If it's going to have the same feature set as the original 84+, additions to the OS (like what happened with the 83+SE) aren't going to be necessary - you can just put any 84+ compatible OS on it. (Maybe even WFRNG OS )
It's completely possible. The TI-83 Plus Silver Edition doesn't accept OSes before 1.13, for instance. Same with touchpads and the first clickpad OSes. Earlier OSes just don't take new hardware into account.

I don't think the 84+ Pocket has any new features.
