TI introduces nuclear fallout-proof calculator packages

As you might all know, it was close to impossible to open a TI-83 Plus package from 2001 using something other than a chainsaw. Things didn't get easier with the time, until the TI-Nspire arrived. At this point, for safety reasons (the packages could cause injuries similar to what's seen in Final Destination movies during opening attempts), TI loosened out package edges so that they can be teared apart easier.

However, with the recent threat of a nuclear attack from North Korea, TI's packages are now stronger than ever, in order to withstand any extreme level of radiation from nuclear fallout! It can be seen with the TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition packages.


Although it is now easier to cut the package to unseal the calculator, it is absolutely no longer possible to open it with your hands. After over an hour, although the cardboard part of the package could easily be pulled, what's below has yet to be opened successfully in my case.

Basically, this means that in the case where a nuclear war would occur, Texas Instruments has now ensured the propsperity of their newly-released calculator model after the end of the world as we know it, should certain areas of the world not be caught in a nuclear blast. Of course, you would still need a power source to recharge your device, and opening the package at all can take between one and four hours with proper tools (which you will most likely lack in a post-apocalyptic world).

Seriously, though, I don't think there are any other company that ever made their item packages that hard to open... ???

of course now they're safer (no risk of cutting yourself) but the two plastics are stuck together so hard that they can't be peeled off. You absolutely need to cut it with scisors now. O.O

Anybody else have one of those plastic-package-openers from the dollar store around?
Box cutters do the trick as well :P

Nope. I never needed any for other type of packages. Often you just tear them apart and you're set. With the Nspire packages, you cut a small part, get your hand in then you can tear them apart if you try hard enough. With the 83+ it's just impossible: You must cut the entire package and you are guaranteed that your scissors won't cut anymore afterward, not to mention you can get injured by the package. With the new calc it's safer but very hard to peel off lol.

Btw it's finally opened. Nice calc but the first thing I did was disabling MathPrint then Asymptomes, else it was slow lol.

I only bought one brand new calc that was in package(all the others were second hand), although it was also in a second hand store.
It was a 83+SE. Of what I can remember it too wasn't easy to open.

This style of packaging is actually really common. They take two pieces of fairly thick plastic, form them in a vacuum-former, put the stuff inside, and heat seal the edges. It's quite strong, and very cheap.
