Ticalc.org launches POTY 2012
« on: December 10, 2012, 01:33:37 pm »
Ticalc.org has just announced the POTY contest for 2012! Since 2003 on ticalc.org, in December of each year, all programs that were featured on their front page from Early December of the previous year to Late November of the current one are eligible to the Ticalc.org Program of the Year contest.

This year, for the TI-83+/84+ round, there are 15 entries, 6 more than last year (making 2012 the 3rd highest total for any Z80 POTY survey). Lots of programs seems to have come out from Omnimaga or its active members this year, as well as other sites and community members, so the competition will be rough. Make sure to vote now! (requires Ticalc.org verified account)

@Leafy: Those were games that were retroactively featured this year, as the staff felt they were over looked originally. :) Good luck to everyone. Also Congrats Deep thought on having 3 of the 14 entries (the most of any author this year).

When there are no news for a while, some years they feature old games that were missed. In 2010, for example, xLIB was featured after being ignored by previous staff (I think it was because one of the staff made Omnicalc, its direct competitor) and Contra made it as well. I don't remember for 2011.

In 2013 I think they should feature Bubble Bobble.

I don't think there were any retro features in 2011, but yeah they have those occasionally. (SSP is awesome.)

Noticed it seems every year there's at least one project that got submitted just barely past the deadline (like Chess which is in this year's, Exodus in last year's, IndestructoTank in 2009's, and Portal for next year).

They featured a snake game in 2011?? O.O

But again it was the first TI-Nspire snake clone. It's actually kinda cool to play on clickpad, though.

Oh, it's going to happen ;)

It's been on my "news to write" pile since I started.

Also, as a quick correction, there are actually 15 entires, 7 more than last year.

Oh wait I guess I missed one. It can be a bit confusing since some Nov/Dec programs from the previous years can be featured sometimes (or even December programs of the same year) XD

For me Alien Breed V is hands down the POTY for 2012.

To be honest, I don't think there will be any huge winner this year (I mean getting a huge amount of votes compared to others), because a lot of the games are equal in quality or are underrated (eg Alien Breed is very great, but it seems to get very few downloads, since people only download games with the name Tetris, Mario, Kirby, Zelda in them or clones of iPod games. D:)
