Title: Update or repair your TI-Nspire CAS+
Post by: critor on May 05, 2012, 09:46:34 am
Yesterday (http://ourl.ca/16079), we managed to dump the last TI-Nspire CAS+ OSes.

We had packed them into TNC files installable on your CAS+ with the Ti-Nspire Computer Link 1.0.

And today, the first TI-Nspire CAS+ OS installations in 6 years after the initial flashing in TI factories have been performed successfully! ;D(http://www.omnimaga.org/Themes/default/images/gpbp_arrow_up.gif)

If your TI-Nspire CAS+ was running an older OS like 1.0.529, you can now update it to the latest 1.0.554 OS! ;D(http://www.omnimaga.org/Themes/default/images/gpbp_arrow_up.gif)
(http://tiplanet.org/forum/gallery/image.php?mode=medium&album_id=79&image_id=804)(http://tiplanet.org/forum/gallery/image.php?mode=medium&album_id=79&image_id=803)

And much more important... If your TI-Nspire CAS+ had no OS anymore because of the use of the Menu+Enter+P combo for example, you can now unbrick it! ;D(http://www.omnimaga.org/Themes/default/images/gpbp_arrow_up.gif)

Upon reboot, the newly installed CAS+ OS will show you 2 popups and automatically open the sample document:

Note that the CAS+ problem is not completely fixed yet, as you'll remain blocked for now with an antic 1.0 OS.

Download CAS+ OSes, watch bigger images and read more information in the TI-Planet news:

Also, now we can start doing bigger experiments without the fear of bricking our devices :)

Oh I also meant the select language one. I don't recall that gray ish background on OS 1.1 or higher. And nice image.

Thanks guys! I repaired my CAS+ as I removed OS by accident  :banghead:
Now I'm waiting for you guys to develop Ndless or figure out if it is possible to upgrade CAS+ to production model or not.

Anyways, BIG THANKS!!

It will not be possible to upgrade it to a production model, as the hardware is too different.
We are testing if certain flaws used in Ndless 1.0 work on the CAS+ OS.

OK I understand now why newer OSs won't work on CAS+ (different processor). I'm still looking forward to see progress with Ndless.

There have been some attempts, but none successful so far.
But this is mainly because we aren't putting much time in the device, because it's not that important (I mean, there are more important thing to do than spending hours on a prototype that almost nobody owns).

Anyway, we still want to do it, but it will take it's time.

There are news on thorougly owning the entire Clickpad series (now production models as well, in addition to prototypes); but no news on the CAS+, AFAICT.

CAS+ aren't prototypes that allmost nobody owns.

And it's important to care about everyone. :)

Well, probably something around a hundred worldwide :P
Probably TI knows how many based on how many weren't returned as planned...

You seem to be underestimating things.

We're talking about CAS+ prototypes - not about ClickPad prototypes.

Oh, I know it's the CAS+.
But I wuldn't say more than a few hundreds worldwide maximum anyway.

the prototype clickpad etc. would be rather a few dozens max worldwide :P

A few hundreds CAS+ in France, and a few dozens ClickPad prototypes in France should be nearer to the truth.

Worldwide, it's much more than that.

It's not because they aren't sold online anymore now that everybody cares only about the CX, that such prototypes have disappeared.

There are fewer Clickpad prototypes than CAS+ prototypes, Adriweb... and unlike owners of Clickpad prototypes, owners of CAS+ prototypes have no way to upgrade that scam.
TI is fully aware of the problem. We have told them that they should release one OS version, so that at least, scammed customers can unbrick their calculators. We have told them about some schemes that would make it possible for them to show they care about scammed customers (e.g. a calculator exchange offer... for several thousands of calculators, it would even enable them to get rid of unsold Clickpad stocks). They don't seem to care, since they haven't moved on that front for nearly a year.

However, it's true that the number of production Clickpad handhelds dwarfs the number of Clickpad prototypes and the number of CAS+ prototypes.
