We are hiring new calculator programming staff!
« on: February 16, 2009, 01:25:28 am »
There have been talk about staff hiring for several months alerady, especially in the last two weeks, but it is official now. Omnimaga is hiring new staff members, specifically Coders Of Tomorrow.

Currently we are seeking for programmers for TI calculators. TI programmers can program for whichever model(s) they desire (z80 or 68k), using the language(s) they want (TI-BASIC, ASM, C, BBC, FastRPL, etc). We, at Omnimaga, are mostly aimed toward game creation as well as game producing tools creation. As staff, you are granted the following:

-The ability to upload your games and programs to the download section (under "Our Own Work")

-Sub-forums for each of your projects (under "Our Projects"), which will be listed on our front page as well as your member profile

-Moderator priviledges (you don't have to moderate the board, since admins are online very often and there isn't much moderation to do here since we try to provide an environment free of hostility, but if for example you want to create a read-only topic, a topic was posted in the wrong section or you accidentally posted twice then you have the ability to correct the issue.)

-Because Omnimaga is also involved in music creation and Windows game producing, if you ever lose interest in calculator programming (which we do not hope!) and move to PC/Music developpement, such work can be uploaded in our archives (except remixes and covers) and you can still remain staff as long as you are willing to remain active on our forums.

Now here are the requirements to be able to apply for staff:

-Your user account must have been created at least two months ago. Else, there will be a delay before your application is processed (altough it might be rounded up to weekends, depending if I am busy or not).

-You need a total of 50 posts total in the past two months.

-You need to have a calculator game project in the works. Screenshot or detailled description and indication of any progress will help. Altough we welcome newer programmers we still try to keep a certain quality control, so if your project is "UB3R 4W350M3 GR4Y5C4L3 YU-GI-OH LIFE POINT COUNTER OF THE DOOM" your application is gonna be rejected.

-You must have followed the forum rules in your entire stay at Omnimaga (this includes all incarnations of Omnimaga forums from 2004 to 2009 and the IRC channel)

-If you used to be Omnimaga staff before, you can only re-apply if you meet the above requirements and haven't been demoted for any reason more than once.

These requirements are simply to make sure that we know who we are going to hire, what they are up to and if they are going to be active, not just dissapear randomly every month or two. As mentionned on our front page, our goal is to provide a discussion environment free of any hostility for all coders wanting to learn, give or get help, show off their work and/or discuss. If you meet these requirements and are interested in contributing to the team, simply send me a private message and I will look into your application.

Please note that there are no current time limit for this hiring run, meaning that if you haven't been here long enough to apply you can simply wait until you do or if you send it now I will let it pend until it has been two months since you joined. Don't send your application too much in advance, though, because I may forget.

Good, I hope that appears some new great programmers. I haven't though of joining as staff of any developing site. But I think I will stay as lone wolf. (I don't remember a better way to explain, right now)

mhmm lone wolf might be the right way actually, because in Halo 3 on the Xbox 360 when you play online with no team in ranked mode the game mode is called Lone Wolves :D and i believe i heard this somewhere else.

I'Ll do some edit to the news though, because I need to clarify some stuff

you broke the rules? you mean to say that you double posted? x.x
This is a terrible tragedy in the history of the ti community.

Unless you were posting porn or something, I'm sure the "rule breaking" can be forgiven ;)

@nitacku he doesn't want to be staff on a TI team/site. Actually he got hired at otbp but it was not him who asked and it was for the bot stuff and he left staff afterward.

@metagross111: if you actually deliberately try to offend people or deliberately cause trouble in the channel, either by calling people name, insulting them or trolling, then you broke a rule. Unfortunately misunderstoods can happen and happened, though, or decisions taken too fast about such matter, but in the 3 years OMnimaga had an IRC channel and an active forum, there are so many people who joined the site for the sole purpose of causing trouble that afterward it became close to impossible to make the difference when someone else joined to see if he isn't doing it intentionally or not.

We're lax on spam, though, as most IRC'ers could notice, altough of course, there's a line to not cross. We have a Randomness forum anyway (for registered members)

2 applications so far btw (altough one of them is gonna be processed only on Feb 25th)

maybe, but this worries me that the users with so few posts will never really become active and care enough to become staff. Most people who had such low post counts in the past were demoted after only two months because they vanished completly from Omnimaga after one month they were hired. On top of that one of them even vanished the day of his hiring

Fault of responsibility is a very nasty and common thing online. One thing is get full after years and just vanish for having no more motivation, other is just evaporate in days. But I think with your demands new, you will avoid many of those situations for sure.

And, yes is better less posts with quality than needless posts. Besides some needless can be fun. ;)

yeah usually less active staff i hired just dissapeared within the first few days or weeks, even if the board has lot of active discussion. I understand when the person gets less active and cannot post anywhere, but I can make the difference between a staff being too busy and a staff not caring at all (by the later still being active elsewhere while not bothering about Omni). There are two only staff in the past that were not active here that became active after their hiring and stayed active all the time after their hiring and it's Halifax and Tenniskid493 but I don't know if that's a valid exception considering that they were not active anywhere else during most of the time they were staff.

Interesting, don't see post relation important. I've been part of Unitedti since early 2006, which is pretty long to meh in the calculator "scene", but I only haz 16 posts. :P

Oh well ;o
