Correlation


I promise this will be in the news only once.  I apologize to those of you who find this article to be annoying.

To Correlation Testers:

It is my goal to make this period of testing as easy and as fun for you as possible.  If you might require more time because you're having trouble, I have no issues being flexible.  To that end, I would like each of you to report how you are doing.  How is your game or test program coming?  Are you finding Correlation easy to use?  Am I doing well fixing things in a timely manner?  Is there a bug I have not found that is really "bugging" you?  Is there anything that you don't understand?  How can I help?  For this week only, please tell me in this news article, and in the future I will have topics for you to reply on.

Also a reminder:  Under "Our Projects/Correlation", you will find a place to report bugs, as well as the topic "Correlation Beta Builds," where you will find Correlation with some bugs that I have fixed.  Please check often, even once every two days.  If you have questions concerning Correlation, please start a topic with your question in that subforum as well.

And again, a big thank you for helping me to make Correlation one of the best programs for making Ti-Basic games!

Okay, cool! To be honest, I haven't done much beyond making a simple program to make hacked string vars...  Also, I'm not all that fond of error menus (I prefer outputs in Ans, kinda like Celtic 3), but it would be cool if you had a "Continue" option. Also, I made sure that prgmCORELATE was on my calc when I made my joke Quadratic Solver to upload on TICalc :D (So it appeared in the screenshot)

I can't wait to see some Correlation stuff in action soon. I unfortunately don't have much motivation to program, but I'm curious about Correlation potential.

Hmm, I need another idea beyond a simple hacked vars creator x.x That is nice, but there are enough out there already and it doesn't show off the potential of Correlation. Anybody got any ideas?

Hmm good question. Have you thought about maybe trying to port some of the games in HomeScreen Game Pack or Omnipack besides BallTrix? I wonder if any could show its potential? Omnipack stuff is pretty unoptimized, though. Other than that, maybe a Correlation map editor?

Sorry that I missed your question :(  Is there some kind of puzzle game you always like?  A lot of puzzle games have tilemap data where you need to extract a single tile to find out what kind of tile it is.  You could use abs( there.

It's possible to make the 3D engine with nothing but 8x8 sprites, but definitely not raycasting 0_0

That said pseudo 3D might be possible, I guess, lol.

What about a Lotus clone? I made a barebone one in xLIB a few years ago once, although it was in early stages.

That's interesting...hmm...well, you can certainly make a lotus clone in Correlation.  I'd have to say that almost anything you can do in xLIB or Celtic III, you can do with Correlation.  These programs also take less space (no need for picvars, etc.) and I'm also going to gamble that they will run faster.  Of course, you can't do 24 x 24 sprites ;D

Ah ok, well the road is made of sprites that are between 64x16 and 32x8 or something, but I'm unsure anymore. Here's a screenshot (I made that game back in 2006 I think, but it never went further than early engine stages).

I think one major issue that would arise is if Correlation doesn't support variable sprite width, though, which this game abuses a lot. I think it even used a variable sprite width argument too, because if I remember, the background was made of two sprites, due to clipping glitches with xLIB back in the days.

Yeah back then I thought about the idea of showing what xLIB can do by making a clone of Lotus Turbo Challenge, but doing things it couldn't, like scrolling backgrounds horizontally. I lost interest, though.
