Well, the rules do say it has to be a game, and the fact that it requires custom external hardware (not just using an adapter like on 8x calcs) means that unfortunately, it will most likely not get accepted. You could try making a simple game that has sound but is not required to play the game, though.

Yeah true. It could be like MTVMG where you can create music, but have a jam sessions game or something. It would have to focus more on the game, though, so people can easily find it and play, and the game would need some ways to win/die or close, so it's not just a beatbox.

Hmm, I think you can make Lua games that out perform C games ;)
Its just a matter of picking the right one, and spending lots of work on it.
