TI-Basic Contest: Movie
« on: October 29, 2006, 09:42:00 am »
The next in the Basic-with-Assembly-Libs Programming Contest Series shall be something you have probably never done on the calc: make a movie. This would be a difficult task in pure basic, with only lines, points and the ever slow circle function, but that's why xLib must be allowed. Judging will again be based partially on omnimaga members voting, and also on the ratio of movie length to program size. The entry can be multiple programs, and the movie can be from mini clip length to full length hit. The deadline will take this into account.

The idea first came to me when I stumbled upon http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/302/30215.html intro to Star Wars. It wasn't much, but it did open up the doors to thinking how much more it could be, with a sprite-based picture and better graphics. Now we have the chance to see what we can do for calculator movies.

Since I haven't been too precise yet in what the contest requires, I will outline everything now.

Requirements: TI-83/84+(SE) Program(s) to play a movie (homescreen or graphscreen) with no user input other than pressing 2nd to go to another scene.
Deadline: December 31, 2006. Use the time wisely and make a creative masterpiece.
Scoring: 50% will be voting (half your voting percent), 50% is placement in the movie length to program size* ratio race. First place gets all 50%, second gets less (the actual number will depend on the number of participants.)
Allowed Asm Libs: xLib, Omnicalc. If you would like to request another, I'll most likely add it to the list. *These don't count toward total program size (the basic code to access it does!)
Submission: PM the entries to me before the deadline.

Good luck.

(Anything I forgot? I know I must have forgotten something besides reserving the rights to change the contest rules...Don't copy this part of the post to the News article that will go with this... If its alright I'll be making an entry too but I won't actually compete; I'll be in it for comparison... okay I'm done)
One of these days I'll get a sig I'm really proud of.

i know what you mean.  lately i only just have enough time to check new posts.  but if i get small chunks done everyone weekend, I think my first project will be finished eventually.  Glad there's been more enthusiasm to learn ASM though.  *Liazon feels a bit more useful in that respect.

Glad to see some enthusiasm toward this, however much it is.
And if no one participates Super Speler will be winner by default... because I can. :Ptongue.gif

I think I'll use this opportunity to finally make the "War of Mmruda: The Movie" I've been thinking about.

Pic files are allowed, but not exactly recommended as a size suggestion. Any other questions?
