[Idea] Nethack for nSpire
« on: February 08, 2011, 09:01:33 am »
Source and binaries.
The preeminent Nethack server.

Nethack is a classic dungeon crawl with randomly generated levels, permanent character death, and insane difficulty. It's written in C and is open source, so as far as I can tell (though I know very little about the nSpire) it's a good candidate for porting. I've poured over 40 hours into this game and still haven't come anywhere close to beating it. The nSpire could use a game with this level of depth.

I don't own an nSpire and can't make this, but is anyone else interested?
See you, space cowboy...

Well, NetHack has been ported to everything from the Amiga to OS/2, so I don't doubt it's possible. NetHack is a sleek 3.6 MB, so space shouldn't be a problem, as the Nspire has more than 4 times that much storage. The game is written in C, so only one question remains: How good is Ndless's C compiler?

If NetHack was ported, I would go out and buy a TI-Nspire tomorrow. It's a great game, and if I was able to play it during math class I might finally beat it.

I prefer POWDER myself, but I'd play it.

There are so many good nspire ideas, but just not enough people to code everything. Just like how there are hundreds of great pontential games to still be made for the 83+. but anyways looks great. I don't have an nspire either,(I'm focusing on Prizm dev work now) but there are plently of people around here that would love to make this.

List of stuff I need to do before September:
1. Finish the Emulator of the Casio Prizm (in active development)
2. Finish the the SH3 asm IDE/assembler/linker program (in active development)
3. Create a partial Java virtual machine  for the Prizm (not started)
4. Create Axe for the Prizm with an Axe legacy mode (in planning phase)
5. Develop a large set of C and asm libraries for the Prizm (some progress)
6. Create an emulator of the 83+ for the Prizm (not started)
7. Create a well polished game that showcases the ability of the Casio Prizm (not started)

For information: there's a Nethack-inspired game for the TI-68k platform, called CalcRogue, by "JimRandomH".

Nethack would be nice, but Calcrogue would be good too. You could always do it similar to CalcRogue.

I like Calcrogue but the lack of directional arrow support and graphics:platform-specs ratio kinda threw me away. I wish like the 83+ one that was in the works for a while we had the option to use arrows + diagonal movement with them instead of just the numpad. On certain computers the numpad will not work in calc emulators.

Has anyone managed to do this yet? I think it can be done with nSpire Linux, as it runs on arm, but I don't know enough about it to do it myself :P

Nice 6 year old necropost there. Since this thread has not been updated I think your best bet for determining if it's been done is googling it. I doubt it has been done though.
