This is the main-Topic about my Strategy game Age of culture II (short form AOCII), which is written in Ti-basic(+xLIB).
You may post suggestions, questions and all that stuff here.
Short Description
As the name suggests, Age of Culture was inspired by the famous computer game 'Age of Empires', but was also influenced by other important strategy games as Warcraft III, for example.
While playing the game you will notice that there are two different interfaces:
The first one is the real time based economy-mode, where you can build, recruit, scroll, wage war, save (of course) and all that stuff.
After having set up an army, you will get to know the round based battle mode, which might remind you on games like 'Chess', 'Advance Wars' for the Game Boy Advance or maybe the Nintendo DS Version of 'Age of Empires'.
The game features two types of resources, gold and wood, three different maps, which are fully scrollable, five difficulties, five different unit types of both wide and low range attack, a moderate AI Player and a very rudimentary cheating tool.
I hope you enjoy it.
Here are some Screenshots of the latest version:

That's definitely looking pretty awesome.
(Note: Edited the post to have the 'color' work right and got rid of the HTML [<span>] since members can't use it.)

I can't wait to see this finished :D, glad you're working on it again :)
Attachment is not avaliable indeed :(, but 0.85 has been avaliable in the Staff download section for over 3 years alerady anyway :P (Lolje was actually Omnimaga staff in 2006 until he became inactive for a couple of years)

First of all all, I want to apologize for the lack of updates in the past time. :-\
But this time I don't just want to talk and advertize.
I actually have some new stuff for you, which I am going to release very soon.
This is what I got:
-Age of Culture v0.89
New Features:
- One new map
- Balancing stuff (gameplay will be a bit harder)
- New sprites for the cavallery units
Secondly - as I announced in August '09:
-'AOCII H4xor'
This is just a very rudimentary cheat-tool for AOCII including custom gold increase and custom wood increase.
You can just tell me if you want more features - I will integrate them (as long as it wouldn't take too much time ;-) )
I am going to upload it for you by no later than Sunday, the 7th of March. ;)
-
nice lolje cant wait to try it :)

nice lolje cant wait to try it :)
Yes, I hope so :)
Actually, the update is already done but since I'm currently on an excursion in berlin with some folks of my school, I can't upload it right now.
but I'm quite sure this won't be the last update on Age of Culture II, even if the progress would be just the result of my boredom.
Age of Culture is not dead.

-
awesome to see it's still alive :) glad you're still in the calc scene.
-
I'm glad that this project is still being worked upon! Awesome work!
-
Nice! I played AOCII v.85 already, and it looked very promising :)
I hope this continues!
-
Ok guys, here you are:
I just attached the latest version (0.89) to the first post. Enjoy! ;)

-
Yay! I'll try that out soon!
*Throws some peanuts*
-
Cooliojazz eaten them again?
-
I want to try it, but I can't open rars. Can you upload it as a zip please? :D
Thanks!
-
Download 7zip portable and you can open them. But yeah, try to upload everything in zip format so that everyone can get them.
-
true. altough rar is better, not all computers comes with rar openers so it can be hassle for some ppl, plus zip is still kinda a standard in the TI community. I wonder if rars can even be opened on Mac anyway. IIRC it supported .sit and .zip last time I used them...
-
Well actually, zips can be just as good, it just depends on what compression ratio you use, and what method. If you use 7zip I'm pretty sure you can get the same compression ratio with all of the different formats.
-
Yeah 7-Zip is good. It supports almost all existing formats and has a very high compression ratio.
-

You could either use 7-zip or (e.g.) this:
http://www.rarlab.com/rar/wrar392.exe (http://www.rarlab.com/rar/wrar392.exe)
-
you might still want to upload your content in zip, though. Some people have restricted computer access and cannot install new softwares such as this. The worst part is that school computers often have USB ports disabled, or none at all, thus, using portable versions of applications that requires no installation, so basically, these people cannot download your game at all.
Also, when you will upload at ticalc.org, they will reject your file if it's not in zip format anyway. It's not like the performance differences between rar and zip makes much a difference anymore with calc games, anyway...
Anyway, since you refused to upload a zip version, I'll do it for you in my post.
-
ok, thanks. It's attached to the first post...
-
I just uploaded it on ticalc.org :)
Age of Culture II on ticalc.org (http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/427/42763.html)
-
nice ^^
That reminds me I really need to try this more. I did load it in Wabbitemu but lacked time to test it. :(
-
I should really try it out. I loved the first one, as well as the second one before this release^^
-
I tried to run it on my Nspire, but it didn't seem to detect that Celtic III was installed... And when I tried deleting that part of the code, it still didn't work.
I guess I'll have to wait until calc84's 83+ emu becomes public...
-
As for PindurTI, theoretically you'd just have to unarchive the *.8xp files before sending them to the emulator, and switch them back to archive oncalc, since you can't send programs flagged as archive files.
-
Yeah I hate that about PTI x.x
@Silver: what OS did you use? I never had any issues with Celtic III on OS 2.54MP, it worked fine, but xLIB failed. Maybe the game uses stuff that doesn,t show fine in Celtic, though. I still need to try it.
-
Well, CelticIII installed fine, I even tested the real( functions.
So I guess it's just because the way AOC2 is written doesn't please CIII.
-
yeah, it may just be some compatibilities issues. I guess the only way is to use an older OS or an emulator and find a ROM
-
Does anyone know how to transfer Apps to TilEm [0.975] ?
I read you need to give a header or something?
Is there any proper 83+/84+[SE] emulator for windows that can [when you have added the required roms] receive files (both ram and archive) and take animated screenies out-of-the-box?
-
Yes, WabbitEmu (http://www.revsoft.org/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=32).
-
Ah thanks, I'll test it...
-
Direct download link: http://group.revsoft.org/wabbitemu.exe
-
Wabbit is an excellent emulator!!
I made 11 animated gif Screenies, showing nearly every single feature of AOCII. DO you think it would be advisable to put them into the 1st post? Maybe I should select the best Screens...
[at this point, two posts were merged into one]
The new screenshots are in the first post.
p.s.
Happy Easter!
-
:O WOW! this is friggin awesome! A true turn-based strategy game for calcs. Those screesnhots really reminded me of stuff like advance wars and even Final Fantasy tactics. It's pretty true to other strategy games of that kind and gameplay seems pretty interesting. Awesome job and like always you stand among the best BASIC programmers on ticalc.org
When this is finished (or close) I am sure it will be featured on ticalc.org (I think somebody has to e-mail them, though, or contact them on IRC)
And happy easter to you too
-

I think a feature would be pretty mind-blowing...
Well, As for the next 14 days, my presence in omnimaga might decrease a lot, since I'm going back home tomorrow and I don't have a stable connection there, just a surf stick (for hsdpa). Secondly, school might also have an influence on progress [...]
However, if I develop something during this period, I probably won't be able to upload it before the 16th of April (or maybe even the 23rd of April) because of this problem.
Greetings, lolje
-
Aaah ok, will you still be able to post from time to time? I guess if you can show up from time to time or at least be active in 14 days, it might guarantee your return as staff as well.
Anyway I hope you don't give up on this project. I was sad when it died 3 years ago :(
-
will you still be able to post from time to time?
yes, of course
btw: AOCII never died... ;)
-
Aaaah ok, I thiought it was kinda halted for a few years, especially when you worked on the Voyage 200 version. I was certain you moved development to the v200.
-
I might release a slightly optimized version soon...
-
Cool to hear ^^
-
sweet cant wait to see havent yet tried it but it looks awsome XD
-
Now all I have to do is wait for calc84 to release his Nspire z80 emu since xLIB doesn't work on TI's default one.
-
for OS 2.0 you mean? I wish BrandonW could patch the 2.54MP emulation like he did with OS 2.53MP on the real 84+ (which fixed xLIB)
-
In hopes that Lolje ever sees this topic again, congrats for the ticalc.org feature :)
-
Congratulations lolje, if you haven't released yet, it is a good time to release the optimizations. ;)
-
Congrats Lolje! :D
-
Hurray for the feature! I might eventually play this, it looks nice.
-
Hey dudes, I'm currently really busy due to school, music stuff and Java [and the list goes on...]
(So that's why I was not able to release any new stuff yet)
However, I didn't forget about this and well, as I said, maybe there will follow a slightly optimized version of AOCII.
Have a great week! ;-)
lolje
-
I hope you return soon (and that you get less busy).
Btw do you plan to make a java version of this game? It would be cool. Maybe if you return to calc development you could make AOCIII in Axe language or the TI-Nspire (C language). ;D
-
Well, I am pretty sure I won't return to 83+ 84+ programming.
As for the Voyage 200, I'm not sure (pro would be that I'm still using it, con the small userbase)
but I'll definitely continue improving my Java skills and Idk, maybe sometime I'd make some kind of game in Java
Coding in C for a calc sounds also quite attracting to me, btw
Anyways, I'll stay tuned... :-)
-
Aw, sorry to hear that you are done with calc stuff. Sadly for v200 there aren't a lot of users anymore, though. The calc is not even sold over here and is rare in USA too (and expensive). Maybe you'll gain interest again with Axe language or stuff like that. (It's not C, but it has the speed of ASM or close and is kinda easy to learn compared to ASM). I hope you post about your future Java project here. :)
