This is kind of a place holder topic to remind me that I have to start working on this soon. I've always wanted to code an RPG for z80 calculators and 68k calculators, but I've never had the time, nor the spriting skill. I definitely want to get this done soon, but I'll have to see...
That is to say, N is not dead per se, but I'd be very happy to see someone else finish it, and do what I couldn't because of time constraints. Good luck with that.
As for Nanocrisis, that maybe revived in the near future as a topdown action RPG, but I'll have to see.
Like my sig says, I could use some sprites, although I'd prefer to do them myself.
This topic is for any open discussion on what you'd like to see in an RPG.
Thanks!!

Don't let RPGs fool you...
It may be easier when writing your own RPG from scratch. But for remakes or ports of an existing RPG, it can be difficult to mimic the original implementation.
I have been working on Ultima V for 3 years now.
Good luck!

Thanks everyone!
Well Kevin, it's a maybe. I kind of want to focus on gameplay and less on graphics. I'm not a super at spriting, so I know I'm not going to focus on something trivial like that unless people feel graphics are very important. Besides, there is only so much you can do at 64x96, even in 4 level gs. I don't plan to use gs because I don't think I can make 8x8 sprites that are much better than b/w ones. Maybe on the 68k it would be okay.
As for gameplay, I want to see how far I can push RPG complexity. I was thinking that since graphics will probably lack, I'd like to get good gameplay. Like I mentioned to DJ_Omnimaga, I'm shooting for MMO in the sense of diversity. A lot more NPC interaction and involvement in story progression.
That being said, does that appeal to people?

That sounds fine. However, it's better to have good graphics then bad ones.

lol, these days, that seems kinda relative ^^
I might get a sprite sheet out and ask for suggestions later, but I kinda want to keep sprites secret for a bit...

True for graphics, altough to me it isn' the most important thing in a game, I saw crappy games with good graphics on calc
That said keep up the good work liazon

after certain considerations, I'm now open to the idea of greyscale. but that means that it might be a 2 -3 page app since i originally planned for 1-2 pages.
is anyone against gs?

That's 4.6 APP pages, which must be rounded down to 4.
What did you have that was more than that?
