Mmruda's Battle Engine/Story

You may have thought I wasn't working on this recently. I am. And now it is time to reveal more pointless information that doen't fit in here...
About a year ago, I was a frequent player of the online game Runescape. Then one day the comp wouldn't recognize the java plugin, so I couldn't play anymore.
The first thing my creative mind told me was, "Hey, make your own RPG!" Thus the tabletop game The War of Mmruda was slowly born one weekend afternoon. The only thing that kept it alive was the thought that Moridel was a cool word.
It started out simple, because I never before got a taste of the outside world and didn't know what to do. I found some people to help out, and the basis of Version One was formed, complete with all my childish ideas.
http://www.unitedti.org/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=573
Then came last summer, and the ideas slowly morphed. Only four battles had taken place, and I wanted my game to catch on. Thus evolved War of Mmruda Trading Card Game...didn't last long at all, but converting spellbooks to five individual spell cards was easy, and 100+ cards made it to set one.
Back to the original plan, I still only had the antilaziness to make the starter items. I had over forty weapons to make official, more than thirty beasts, and no spells (The Codex of Magic was supposed to be done last week, for the tenth week in a row.
)
Luckily over the summer I got a calc, and thus version five of The War of Mmruda is slowly unfolding...
notes and edits: I'm sure I forgot something up there, so reply and I'll remember.
As you can see now, the whole point of Mmruda is the battle engine, which is now top priority.

Did anyone read the whole rulebook?
My newest problem is magic. I'm thinking of giving each spell an index number, so some cool-looking algorithm can find the
n
th set of equations in a string with all spells separated by spaces and individual spell effects separated by commas. A sample would be:c1-->
CODE
ec1" 2X+3,.3X^4 X(2-Z X,X+1,6Xc2
ec2
What I am having trouble with is the combination of sub(Str1,inString(Str1," ",(index var)), and several more inStrings follow that.
Although this sounds like a problem for someone at UTI, can anyone here help?

Okay, I think I got it working. Hopefully with this I will be able to have at least 30 spells. I'll see if it can be done an easier way.c1-->

Could you supply a link with the cards you made? I like card games, and reading your rulebook I wonder what your game looks like.

I don't have any spells yet, but I'm going to start on that today.
And Krid, sorry but I didn't make any cards.
I made several cool .bmp backgrounds for the cards, the card game rulebook, and a set 1 checklist. Would you like to see those?

Impressive! There are some very original aspects on that game, I like how you can equip your character as though it'd be a video game. Thanks for the interesting read
As for the calculator game; I'm looking forward to see what kind of spells you are going to come up with. Having read your TCG rulebook and card designs your creativity shouldnt be a problem. Awesome!

Thanks.
From the beginning I wanted the emphasis to be on weapon strategy and not dice rolling.

Progress:
I decided the above routine would be used to store NPC speak.
Spells will just have their own subprograms, which allows for -
1.) More complex damage formulae
2.) Special attack-specific effects
3.) Battle animations! :woot:

(I already have an excuse:)
This week is my hs's test week - tomorrow is math. I prepared myself for a "RAM, ARCHIVE, and FLASH Cleared" message (backup made).
Expect me to remake the engine to be xlib compatible after that.
