Don't do anything with the black area for now - I'll think of what to add there later.

I like the first screenie Spelli. Except perhaps the gray stuff should be moved down a couple pixels so "THE RPG" would be a little more clear.
Oh that's maybe a bit late; but I think 68k-asm is fast enought to create a good 8-level greyscale...
@spellshaper: how about making a 100*160 8-grey title :pop: ^^
btw: wich program do you use? I never found a 'jpg -> asm-grey'-prog for 68k calcs...

Using http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/90/9070.html, I now have teh ability to make lvl-8 greyscale pics for TI-89/92. Except that I still need a proper compiler to make .9xz-files. <_< Besides, doesn't the LCD of the TI-92 have 240x128 pixels instead of 160x100? *Spellshaper doesn't like compilers, mainly because he wasn't even able to get TASM up and running. >_<

nonono its ok you didnt started a flame war, and even if it would have it was unintentional, it's just that on some other forums and IRC chat some ppl started posting anti z80 flames, and I even see the opposite >.> I doubt this would happen here though, as we are kinda mixed between z80 and 68k users ;)
Well. If I finda prog or someone to help me making it a grayscale-pic-program, it WILL become lvl8-greyscale B)
here's the pic in lvl8-grey:

more shading added, btw.
O_O O_O 8 lv gs madness!!! Holy s*** this is f***ing awesome spellshaper! How do you manage to make those title screens? :o

xnview? never heard of it, is it free?
O_O That is awesome, Spelli!
Would there be any way to make this:

Look kind of like this:

I know one uses 4-level grayscale and the other uses 8-level grayscale, but if it is possible, that would be great :) .

I would imagine 8-level grayscale on a 68k calculator would be flickery and drain the batteries a lot. If I also made the maps with 8-level grayscale, they would probably take up an aweful lot of space.

8-level hmm... well, i heard that Kevin Kofler (sorry kev for mentioning his name!) might be secretly working on an 8 level gs mode for TIGCC's greyscale.
AFAIK: pros: cool graphics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! cons: drain batteries, more data, and consequently shorter RPG, as well as flicker if the motion is too intense. Also, it might look repulsive on HW2-4 because of the flicker. I wish TI didn't change the screen hardware!!

:D
wow that is good, can't wait to see. (now to go buy an 89).
Great work guys! That title screen looks amazing! Can't wait to see more screenies of the game itself :D
ooooh nice bfr! You need to mess a bit with the contrast settings tho in the screen proggie so we see all lv of gray :D
Here's a new screenshot:

It doesn't really do much, yet, and I still need to make a better arrow to select options in the menu.
getting better, I think yopu should try with white text on darkgray bg otherwise we dont see the text much :P
OK. Yeah, I was thinking about that.
Here are the 32x32 sprites for rivereye, tenniskid, and dragon_lance (in that order):

:D
These are going to be used when selecting which character the user wants to be.
Don't even bother including the rest..cuz obviously everyone is gonna want to be me :) :)
I'm curious more and more about mine O_O
bfr: Are things going to be different in the game for each of the different characters???
Yes. Also, xlibman, the user gets to select to be one of the managers that wants to be in the RPG, so sorry, you won't have a 32x32 sprite. You'll still have an 8x8 one though . :D
:'(
Also, once school starts (which is in four days, for me), I might only be able to make updates about Omnimaga - The RPG two or three times.
aaah i c, you mean two or three time per week or two or three time before release?
Sorry for not being clear. I meant two or three times a week.

i think there was one day where there was near 400 posts in 3 or 4 hours, 40 of which were by you :D
that is a lot of spamming. How about getting back on topic.

is it me, or do I have an odd apperance in this game right now?
Well, I suppose you do. But, Tenniskid is small and has an afro, and Dragon_lance is a dragon....
I can change it if you want though :) .
All the chars look pretty weird. Is this going to be the style of the whole game? Or do you just suck at drawing chars XD

OK :D leofox: I'm not very good at drawing characters, but I don't think they're too bad...or is it just me? -.- Also, all of the other characters that need to be drawn are going to be 8x8. If somebody (loplje) wants to help me with the 8x8 sprites, that would be great. They are going to be in four-level grayscale.

why 8x8 though? We're talking about a 89 with a pretty big screen. Perhaps 16x16?

I've had hardly any time to spend on the computer to do stuff that I want (browse forums, code) since school started (literally like one to three minutes a day). So, unfortunately, this means that I'm not going to be really active Monday-Thursday, and I'm not going to have a lot of time to work on Omnimaga - The RPG and other projects.
i c >.< focus more on school stuff tho ;) and whenever you get free time you can work on it :)
I have made some progress in the tile-mapped part of the game; I now have pretty much the base code for the main part of the game. It probably wouldn't have been possible without the help of Ranman - thanks again :) .
cool to hear, I cant wait to see new progress!
I appreciate the support :) . I'm going to be using four-level grayscale animated 16x16 tiles. I'm going to be using ExtGraph, a graphics library by http://tict.ticalc.org, and the tile-mapping engine included. I'm probably not going to be able to work on this for another week or so though because of school.

glad you'll still be around ^^, I myself dont programs calcs much anymore as well nowadays but I still come here very often when I dont play starcraft ^.^
Would anybody be interested in making 16x16 4-level grayscale sprites of Tenniskid, Dragon_lance, and rivereye? It would be great if I could get some for when each of them was facing forwards, backwards, left, right, and when each of them is walking in each direction. I could mention your name in the credits, if you'd like. Also, if anybody has any awesome 16x16 four-level grayscale tiles they think would be good for this RPG, please show me them.
Here's a screenshot of part of the map so far:
Zelda power!!!
wow sound nice, I'll try to find some sprites (prbly rpgmaker) and convert them to b/w
there we go, not that good for conversion but anyway
O_O aren't those 4 lvl already? could you share? :D
I converted them from some RPG maker sprite sheet, which was color.
I know I haven't been making much progress on this lately, and I'm sorry :( . Part of this is that #tigcc was done for a while, and then when it started working again, I was banned from there. Part of this is that I have been working on other projects. But I will try to finish this, and I really don't want this project to die.
Thanks for the sprites, xlibman :) . What size are those, though? Also, there has got to be a program that converts that tilemap sheet to a bunch of separate tiles, and possibly even generates the C code for them too, which would be great. Would anybody know of this program, if it exists?
Not that xlibman's spritesheet was bad, but sprites are still welcome :) .
That's going to be the main feature in my Bitmap -> .8xi Converter (the tile-splitter and the C/ASM code output) .
**Offtopic** The first version or two are going to be TI8x only, but I'm hoping to be able to expand to cover all calcs someday...
Sorry for that little bit...
sprites are 32x32 i think, as it was rpg maker, not sure tho I would need to check. Also I gotta make 16x16 versions of them if it work well. i dunno for program to separate them. I usually select the desired image area, and paste it in a 16x16/32x32 image
16x16 versions
they are much darker tho cuz I had to edit them so the texture remains after resizing

So not 68k? that's too bad. I was going to say that one thing I don't like about istudio is that it only outputs C array format for sprites as char, and nothing else. I have to put it through an online hex manipulator to make it formated correctly.
yeah he said he's hoping to expand to other calcs someday, which would be cool since this tool would cover all calc supporting asm

Ok, since this is an RPG, have the procrastinator be defeated in the end, then I walk in... Fadeout and room for a sequel. :D
You have to add me to the list of people who want to be in it, too.
If you didn't already plan my part in the game, I'd like to be in a clan war with super speler and his army. My guys will be known as radical politicians, led by the radical Pi...
well...I kinda have to wonder what this game is supposed to be like. I mean, there are no screens or anything so...could we see some?

By "procrastinator", I take it you mean "protagonist"? :P Super_Speler: I might figure out some way for you to have your own army. Maybe you could be another one of xlibman's enemies. Anyway, here is how it's going to be set up: xlibman: The king Dragon_lance, rivereye, Tenniskid: At the beginning of the game, the user chooses to be one of these characters. Each one has different powers and abilities. Everybody else: I'll have to figure out some way to implement you all in the game. If you want to be something specifically (as Super Speler said he wants to have an army), just tell me. Anybody else who joins after the next week or so will probably either end up being a minor character or will not be in it at all, because I need to start finalizing how the game will be. necro: I haven't taken a screenshot it a while. Here's an old screenshot:
Sweet! Plz add me as a mage :) or a gray wolf :P
I need to finish the tileset. Does anybody know of a program to generate C code for each tile in a 16x16 four-level grayscale sprite sheet?
Not sure, but maybe there is something in TIGCC or genlib or extgraph?
can necro have either a shop in the game that sells realy expensive stuff or have a realy big sword? Or maybe I can't die (that'd be amusing)
maybe look like this?
(quite a likeness with the long hair and all)
Sure. :)
See the first post in this thread for a list of the members in Omnimaga - The RPG and what their role(s) will be.
New screenshot of dragon_lance walking:

I'm using Zelda tiles at the moment because I can't seem to find a tool that generates that C code for grayscale 16x16 tile-maps.
Remember, if you are in the game and want your sprite to look a certain way, just tell me.
O_O That looks awesome! Am I in the game? I remember posting in this thread a long time ago, but I don't remember if I'm in it or not.

Heh, awesome. Personally, I want to look like L from Death Note. To see what he looks like, look at my avatar, and Google it. If you have trouble finding a good picture of him, let me know.

;) The only tiles from Zelda that I'm going to use are going to be the water and maybe the grass. Would anybody mind making 16x16 4-level grayscale sprites for Tenniskid and rivereye? that look nice, Mathstuf had a good tool to make gs sprites code, but his site went down i think and he didnt went online for ages :(
yeah, I could use a slightly different sprite. Btw, can I have some fishing gear?
The lower right corner of the trees displays a column of greyscale sprites; is it supposed to be like that? Also, the grass is kinda faint.
If I am in the game, make me a wizard...no, a sorcerer...no, a warlock! I will want to be a warlock.
Delnar_Ersike: Yeah, that was just me testing the something. And I'll gladly make you a warlock :D
rivereye, you can have some fishing gear :)

cool. I really would like to see what comes of this (though I will have to get a 68k to really enjoy this).
BTW, did you add movement sprites for the other characters as well?
haha I love this char it's funny :D nice work so far!
He still needs someone to make the 16x16 sprites for the other chars.
Maybe I can help for create some sprites (just type me what are the sprite to do :psychedelic: ).

Could you make 16x16 4-level grayscale sprites for rivereye being still, walking up, walking down, walking left, and walking right?
I'll try. But I'll resize the sprite if you want it in 16x16 pixel.
edit : Is this good ?
o.o wow thats pretty great, did you did them yourself?
Yes, with Paint , but maybe I can do better. If you want other sprite just type me which one.
very cool sprites
Nice sprites. :) You can improve them if you want, but they seem good enough already to me.
I think you can take it now if rivereye agrees. Here's other sprite I do :

Me (but you're not obliged to take it).

A monster or a NPC, you can do what you want with it.
now i think we got a new pixel artist there :D

Wow! Great work and find Deeph! %) I think the RPG will look a lot better now. Hopefully, bfr has what he needs (and the pixel artist too ;)
EDIT: I remember my friend and I made tons of sprites a long time ago... Let me see if I can find them.
those are some really cool sprites there. We do have an artist among us.
OK. These are some sprites I made a long time ago for my school's programming club. They are not that good and they were not intended for calculators so they are of random size. Maybe there are a few you can use, but I'm not sure. (The smaller ones for items, char, etc; and the larger ones as bosses, etc.)

Also, when you choose your character, maybe you can include a stats screen (like below). I don't know how it will work out since it's just an idea.
DUDE HOLY f***ING s***! That's awesome! Now you people are gonna make me get an heart attack x.x
those sprites are amazing!!!! are those 8lvl??

nice bfr, this reminds me windows menus a lot :D

These are my latest sprites...

And I wonder who the guy can be.
EDIT: I forgot to remove the white background!
dude, just pure pwnage.
if only they'd fit on calc :'(
do you have any in the 16x16, 32x32, or 64x32 range?
No I don't :( I could try though. I haven't done sprites for like a couple of months though.
I just thought that maybe one or two could fit (originally they are being used in my school's Java Game).
bfr, you game menu is great, but...why the heck did you put a guy doing the splits into the map? :P

Delnar_Ersike, that is a secret. apparantly it is a member of Omnimaga, and I have a guess as to who it is...but bfr isn't giving any clues about it
@trevmeister66...no there is no demo yet
dang, i got myself all excited...
Yah, I'm wondering who it is, too. But the game should be worth the wait.
Recently there are a bunch of games that are being worked on for the 89 (CF, SM68k, Ultima, SMA, etc.).

I'll get the next great 68K model, if they realize the Nspire direction isn't the right direction for them.

I am curious who it is as well.
Btw the sprites images are down :(
EDIT: nvm i saw it was hosted on Geoshitties and they doesn't support remote linking/hotlinking from external sites <_<
They are O_O
Hmmm, the gargoyle sprite looks strangely familiar, but I don't know from where... bfr, what does the "Attacks" tab do in the game? Store previous battles and outcomes?
EDIT: Found out why the gargoyle sprites look strangely familiar...they are almost identical to the gargoyle sprites in Heroes of Might and Magic II (it's a really old game)!
This game looks cool, bfr!
BTW, is it "advanced dialogs" (pro?) you are using for that dialog boxes?
Yup - advanced dialogs.

o.o They are? Anyway, I'm taking out most of the Zelda tiles out later on - these are just temporary (because I haven't made my own yet). Lachprog: OK :) I made some nice progress since the last update, but then stopped working on it for a couple of months, admittedly, but I started working on it again yesterday, and I'll probably start working on it more every weekend. I've been working on implementing another character (I'm not going to say, yet, only he knows), items and attacks are already implemented (it's fun walking around and punching the characters XD - btw, the attacks can be used in other situations too, such as actual battles and related), and I improved talking (yes, the player can talk to other characters/things), but I'm going to try to not give every little detail about the updates so that the game isn't spoiled.
Niiicee! I know you've been busy on porting some other games to the 89 recently ;) , but the progress sounds good!
Looks like it's comin' along pretty good. You can put me in it. I must be crazy and involve bananas somehow. %) Also have some ultimate uber-1337 zombie-fighting sk1llz of dh00m. :samurai:
Lol, OK. :D
Here's a screenshot demonstrating Tenniskid using his "Super Punch" and "Tennis Serve" attacks (which can also be used in actual battles too, besides when he's just walking around):
EDIT: Also, suggestions for a few more new attacks are open (although I already have about twenty already planned).
Dragon breath? For DragonLance (yes, I know that DragonLance is a weapon and the name of a series of science fiction novels).
BTW: I like the attacks :) and how Tenniskid can walk right through bushes ;) .
:P I'm going to take care of that later.
Also, I just finished some house tiles. I still have many more tiles to go, though.
You better be using peanut's as the main food/healing source...
Heh. I was planning to have peanuts involved, though, and have Spellshaper be involved with them the most, so I guess peanuts could have magic healing powers or something like that. :D
Action RPG, coolness!!
make the peanuts a special item you get later in the game and they do something random everytime
Can I be in there? As like a creature or boss you have to fight? ^^
Sure! :)
And now that I have Spring Break, I'll probably have more time to work on this.
Any progress??? It's looking cool.
Is it too late to add in characters to the game? Since I only joined the forum recently... but I have been around nearly forever on IRC (dragonfire network).
I'd like to be some kind of dragon-like NPC that would teach related special techniques and provide "rare items" to those "qualified" to use them. For qualification, perhaps a boss battle or some kind of mini game?
Heh. Just a thought. But if you do decide to do it, and still need other stuff to go on, try using any the following stuff: IRCop on dragonfire, is cherry-flavored, decent Z80 ASM programmer, obsessive-compulsive, minimalist, white and fuzzy, loves to play around, talkative on certain topics, always carries a USB flashdrive, loves Chinese and Mexican foods, somewhat insane, sometimes is random.
I'll add you in, Iambian. Also, good ideas - I'll probably do something like that.
Netham: Admittedly, sorry, I didn't really work on it much over Spring Break. I did work on a few other (less important) projects, though.... This month is going to be kind of busy, but I should start working on it more during May or June (and hopefully have a demo or something sometime near the end of June or July).
OMG. A demo?!?! I can't wait. :)
DEMO NOW!!!!!!!!! <(-54125+_-<) (>-_-)>

tis a shame i havent got an 89
Hey, if its not too much trouble, can I look kinda like my avatar? If not, thats cool, im fine with anything
Sure, I'll try, but it might be kind of hard to turn that into 16x16 4-level grayscale.
Im sure you can do it ^_^ You can lose the scythe on his back if you want
Is that project still even active?
