Well, I guess it's time for me to start that RPG I said I would make.
I desperately need a storyline (I went to the ticalc.org forums, that's how desperate I am.)
What I have so far is the last fifty years history of the planet Mmruda in a nice program but can I attach that program so you don't need to type it in?
Once I figure that out I'll ask for a decent plot.

I've been trying to make a story to go along with it, but it somehow always comes out like World War II. O_O

About storylines:
This is what I learned from the guy who made the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy original game. He said that in this day an age, the role of story telling in video games has made drastic changes. It started out as the story being the most vital part, because games were only text based.
Later, when graphics came out, stories still affected greatly. But it wasn't until MMO and multiplayer, that stories became a part of the background. In an RPG specifically, they play MMO to create their own story. With MMO and open ended storyline, people can now live their own adventures. People can talk about their LAN match in Halo where they blew up a guy so bad it looked like he got into the fetal position.
But on the calc, there is a limit to MMO and open ended capabiltiy. That is why you must write your story as if it were a book.
My substitute English teacher once explained why English class existed: The IMAGINATIVE world is more real than the real world, the world we physicall manipulate. We are psychological beings, and what we interpret of the same event depends on our baggage, our experiences. That's why we like some stories and not others. If we like, we usually can relate to it in some mysterious way. If we don't like, absolutely hate, then it's telling us that our life and who WE ARE has nothing to do with that story. If we are indifferent, then perhaps it is a bad story.
Your story should stem from within. It has to be a part of you that you want to put in the open so others can share a piece of your psychological entity. In some way or another, a good story relates to the author and his fans in some connecting, mysterious way.
That's all I have to say about stories.

Hey you with the calculator! Come share some of my psycological entity! Wait! Don't run away...again.
:hi:
I have been told multiple times of my creative story writing skills, but games are different in my view. The way I look at it is the more detailed the storyline is, the less possibility the character can choose from. It's like listening in on a story instead of playing a game.
But I will try...

Modern gamers want to make their own story. The just want a good back drop on things.
I didn't say be so restrictive on it, just give it more substance than a guy escaping from a bar fight finding out he is God

I can't be unrestrictive on it, that's just how I work :
:
I did narrow it down to this:
Beginning-set out on a quest to become strong enough to end the war
End-kill Zindor and end the war
Hmm maybe that is all I need...

Interesting beginning, I might work with it. :ru13z:
