Ballpoint pen mark on ti-84 screen
« on: September 23, 2010, 05:45:15 pm »
So after leaving my calc in my backpack, it appears to have gotten a pen mark on the screen, and I can't seem to get it off. It doesn't affect the usability of the it though- it's just annoying. Does anybody know of a good solution to wipe it off? (without damaging the LCD of course)

if its the dry ink, use a coin gently to scratch it off, if its liquid ink, use a slightly wet cottonball.

Thanks for the advice yunhua, however the cotton ball didn't work and the coin seemed to fade it a bit  :-\. Maybe I'll keep trying

Use Acetone.  It's in nail polish remover.  Put some on a cotton ball and rub it gently.

Ouch I hope you can get rid of the mark. In Geekboy1011's case, I think something was squeezed on the calc LCD for a while and it left a permanent LCD mark somewhere, making the screen hard to see. In your case, fortunately it's a pen mark so it should not be as bad. Just be careful to not scratch the LCD while getting rid of the mark.

In my case, last year once I accidentally spilled 7-UP on my TI-Nspire. Fortunately I got time to remove it before it gets inside the screen edges or the keys, but it was all sticky x.x

@DJ oh yeah I hate it when I spill soda on my keyboard. It's really annoying.
@SirCmpwn okay thanks I'll try that as soon as I'm able to :)

Yeah, I love how people tell you the world will end if you spill something on a keyboard, which is a complete lie.

Ya, acetone or even rubbing alcohol or something should do it. Just get a cotton ball, dampen it a bit and rub gently.

Yeah, I once spilled juice into the lower half of my calc. Now half the keys are kinda sticky, making a lot of games harder than before :P I've been trying to find screwdrivers that I could use to take the case off, but I can't get any. Is there another way to open the case?

tloz128: Hopefully it didn't leave a dent in your screen :-\ And about the coin, use one without ridges, like a penny. Polish remover should work fine, though. I've used it on my case before.

Except that if you don't (or can't) clean it afterward, the keys can get sticky and with some substances like coffee it eventually smells terrible x.x

Well, I never put any liquid or drink beside me when I'm using a calculator or a computer in the first place.

Not without horribly damaging the case in the process, to my knowledge. I think the calculators use hex screws.

Yeah, and the smallest hex screws we have are depressingly large. Oh well...

I actually found this thing, the General tool 4-in-1 screwdriver (http://www.generaltools.com/Products/Pocket-4-In-1-Mini-Screwdriver__744.aspx), whose smallest flathead bit is better at taking screws out of a calculator than a hex key.  Seriously, guys, this thing is awesome, and only 3 bucks.
