When school starts, the TI-83+ is discounted here, even down to $89.99 some years, while the TI-84 Plus can sometimes go down to $125 or so. However, since parents are not tech-savy about technology and are also poor here, they'll usually go for the cheapest calc possible. WHen the TI-80 was still sold, a lot of parents bought that calc for $69.99 instead.

The market for expensive calcs is just not big enough here. It's not poor enough to allow Casio to dominate like in countries under development, but there aren't enough rich people to allow anything more expensive than the TI-83 Plus to thrive.

However, most of the calcs as just popular enough to convince Texas Instruments to keep prices inflated. IIRC, in University, the TI-89 and to a lesser extent the TI-89 Titanium are still very popular here, although nobody really program it. I never heard of anyone IRL who owned a TI-Nspire at all.

Math-wise, the TI-89 is a lot more powerful than the TI-Nspire CX (non-CAS).

Yeah but it lacks a color screen and 150 MHz processor. But again we're mostly paying for the software.

From what I remember, it's $150. The 84+ was $110-120 and 84+SE $130-150 if I recall correctly. I wouldn't be surprised if the price was on-par with the 84+Silver Edition and if it replaced that calc entirely at some point.

Strangely enough, Staples has now restocked on TI-Nspire CX and now it's listed again on their Canadian site, at $169.84 online and $174.99 in stores. However, the 84+SE is gone. The 84+CSE is listed at $159.99, which is $10 more than the SE and $17 more than the 84+. I still couldn't find the PRIZM again at the local store, but on the website it's still available for $129.99. The 89T went from $188 to $179.92 and the CX CAS is still at an outrageous price of $199.99. So in stores, the calcs that are available for now are the 83+, 84+, 89T and Nspire CX. I guess if the CSE price remains the same forever and is the same in the physical store, then it's not too bad per Canadian standards considering the 84+SE used to sell for $176.84.

I didn't check Walmart yet.
